MESSAGE
Although
this Newsletter has been ready to mail for the past two months,
it has been held until now for two reasons. I
was waiting in order that the brochure about my new book could be
enclosed, and I wanted to include the index for 1987, all issues
of Volume III with this mailing. Unfortunately, I've
hired three individuals to just type the index, and it still is
incomplete. The third person tells me that it is half
finished. So maybe, at this rate, it will be done by June!
The
enclosed brochure will tell you a little about my new book, The
Library: A Guide to the LDS Family History Library. It
took two years to complete, as many of your are aware, but I
believe that the finished product will be valuable to those
researchers who use the Library in Salt Lake City as well as its
vast branch (Family History Centers) library system. If any
of you wish to purchase a book, do so from me as I can get them
for a few dollars less than the going price. Of course, if
you want you can order them from Ancestry Publishing in Salt Lake
City, UT 84110.
Believe
it or not, now that this project is finally finished, I have
started another one. This new book will also be written
with Johhi Cerny and will be a supplementary volume to The
Source, which she wrote with Arlene Eakle.
Since
this issue was typed and printed back in December 1987, several
additional corrections and additions have been received to the
Mississippi BOYT/BOYETT information which was published in the
Volume III, Number 3, issue of the Newsletter. These will
be included in the next issue. Each and every little bit
helps piece the puzzles together, so keep your data coming!

Editor's notes:
Many entries in the AIS index were duplicated. Most duplications were only double, but a few include three or four duplicate entries. All duplications have not been included in this presentation. Where only two were printed in the original, these were copied as is into this compilation. The second entry, where all information was exactly the same, is shown by the note in the right-hand column of (duplicate?). Where more than two entries were shown in the original, only the first two were copied into this compilation. These are noted with the following "# dup entries."
As you may have noticed by the dates of some of the records, this compilation included census and tax lists. Enumerations from the U.S. Censuses are noted with years ending in "0." All others were taken from tax lists.

Editor's nate: It should be very obvious to the reader that although Accelerated Indexinq Systems (AIS) has indexed all of the 1850 U.S. Censuses, these indexes are very incomplete. A comparison of census materials already published in early volumes of this newsletter will show that many of the families were not included in the AIS indexes.
Also, it should be noted the many discrepancies in the spelling of the names. Some are caused by the census enumerator's errors, but many are due to the serious lack of skill in reading the handwriting by those employed to compile the indexing materials.

DURHAM G. BOYETT AND HIS DESCENDANTS
l. Durham G. BOYETT was born in either 1814 or 1815 in North Carolina. He moved to west Tennessee before he married. He married Clarinda CREWS on 20 August 1838 in Gibson County, Tennessee. He farmed in west Tennessee all his life and died there about 1865. In 1838, Durham was married in Gibson County, but when the 1840 U.S. Census was enumerated, he was residing in Dyer County, which is adjacent to Gibson County on its western boundary. By 1850, the family was again in Gibson County, and when the 1860 U.S. Census was taken, Durham was living in Pemiscot County, Missouri. After 1860 and before 1870, the family moved to Twappity township, Scott County, Missouri. It is possible that both Durham and Clarinda died there. Durham died before the 1870 U.S. Census was enumerated, as Clarinda, was the head of the household at that time. Because of the times, it is probable that Durham served in the Civil War, and he may have been killed or died from injuries which occurred during the War. Clarinda died after 1870, probably in Scott County, Missouri.
Their Children:
i. male child, b. est 1839, Dyer County, Tennessee; d. bef 1850.
ii. Martha, b. 1841, Dyer County, Tennessee, a seamstress.
iii. Nancy, b. 1843, Tennessee, died or married before 1860.

3. vii. Samuel David, b. 1858, Gibson County, Tennessee; m.(l)
Synthia A., about 1879; m. (2) Sarah; m. (3) Mary Jane SAILORS.
2. Thomas William BOYETT(E) was born in March 1853, a son of Durham and Clarinda CREWS BOYETT He married in 1874 probably in Scott County, Missouri, to Mary J August 1853 or 1855 in Kentucky. He died 22 July 1930
Their Children:
4. i. Nona Eliza, b. either 15 November 1874 or May 1873, Scott Co., MO;

v. Jesse Edward, b. Apr 1885; m. (1) 12 Mar 1904 Flora M. PALMER; m. (2) 6 July 1902, Cora CHILDERS; d. August 1940.
3. Samuel David BOYETT, b. 18 Oct 1858, Gibson County, Tennessee. He married first Synthia A. about 1879, probably in Scott Co.,Missouri. She was born in Kentucky and both her paretns were born in Kentucky. Synthia was born about 1863. She probably died shortly after the 1880 U.S.Census was enumerated, for Samuel remarried about 1880 to Sarah BAKER. She died about 1888, and he remarried about 1898 Mary Jane SAYLER/SAILOR she died 29 Jan 1904, and he remarried again on 5 May 1905 to Kate FAUST. Samuel farmed in Crowder, Missouri. He died 29 Dec 1939 in Cape Girardeau. Synthia A. and Sarah may be one and the same person, but it is doubtful as Synthia was born in Kentucky, and according to the 1900 U. S. Census, Sarah was born in Missouri, as indicated in the record for her children. Sarah was the mother of four of Samuel's five children.
(Durham G. BOYETT's Descendants continued)
3. Samuel David BOYETT-his third wife was born 10 Nov 1865 in Missouri. |
She died 29 January 1904 in Scott County, Missouri. He then remarried Kathryn FAUST, the mother of his fifth child. Kathryn was called Kate; she and Samuel were married 5 May 1905.

DID YOU KNOW THAT -
"on July 7, 1900, he (Warren Earp, brother of the infamous Wyatt) confronted Johnny BOYETT, an old enemy from the Tombstone days, in the Headquarters Saloon at Willcox, Arix. It was 1:30 a.m. and Warren was feeling no pain.
According to the Arizona Range News, Warren started an argument, then told BOYETT to get his gun.
BOYETT went to the Willcox House and strapped on his guns. When he returned he fired two shots at Warren, but missed. Warren slipped out the back door, but a few moments later re-entered the saloon through its side door.
Then, as the newspaper reported, He advanced towards BOYETT. Opening his coat he said: 'You have the best of this, I have no gun. ' Boyett told him repeatedly not to advance or he would shoot. Earp kept advancing and BOYETT backed off towards the frton door. Finally BOYETT again repeated his warning . . . Earp not heeding, BOYETT fired and Earp dropped dead.'
When bystanders rolled Earp's body over a half-opened pocket knife dropped from one hand. Otherwise he was unarmed.
At the coroners inquest that afternoon, BOYETT was absolved of all blame. Most of Warren's acquaintances agreed with the verdict, although some shed tears. To them, he had pushed things too far."
