I knew Jeff BOYETT during the Confederate War.  I know that he was in the Confederate Army.  I saw him-visited him while sick in Camp. I had known him before  I do not know what company Jeff BOYETT was

BOYETT hereby certify that I am the person to whom is entrusted the paying of the accounts and indebtedness of the late Mrs. Jeff BOYETT. . died 13 Feb 1922 in the town of Appleby....  The pensioner died in the home of W.  B.  LAWSON...son-in-law.   J. J. BOYETT...  [is Mrs. Jeff BOYETT's)  son.   Mrs. Jeff BOYETT is buried in Pleasant Hill cemetery located in the county of Nacogdoches, State of Texas.

The son & E. BOYET enlisted in Co. B. 8th Texas infantry and served in said co and regiment until the close of war, making more than three years service.  He made a good soldier.  we know these facts because we were in the same regiment but not in the same co. together but were together almost every day.

The records show that E. BOYETT private, company B. 12th (Young's) also called 8th Texas Infantry.  Confederate States Army, enlisted May 13, 1962.  The roll of the company for January and February, 1864, last roll on file, shows him present.  No later record found.

Notes on file:    Fails to state time of service. Owns Land.
Pension Application was disapproved  25 Sept 1902.

Another pension application was filed by E. BOYET which states that he served in the Confederate Army and was discharged In April or May 1865, on account of close of the war.

The records show that E. W. BOYETT, private, Company H, 47th Tennessee Infantry, C.S.A. was enlisted 3 December 1861.  On the roll of the company for January and February 1964, last on file, he is reported present.  No later record of him has been found. 20 March 1907.

Dear Sir:-I have your letter of the 2nd inst., in which you advise me of the death of E. W. BOYETT who was a pensioner from Harris County. Complying with your request I am sending you herewith blanks to be used in making claim for the mortuary warrant of Thirty Dollars which the sate allows for burial expenses....

Proof that E. W. BOYETT was unable to support himself was made in the form of a deposition made by H. FRANKLIN and C. T. BLACK who attested that they had known E. W. BOYETT since 1891....  He is now 68 years old...   11 March 1907

Also deposing in favor of E. W. BOYETT were J. E. BOYETT of Chico, Texas and J. G. REED of same.

A full page deposition reads as follows:

Ex porte E. W. BOYETT. Pending in County Court of Harris Co., Texas. Answers and depositions of J. E. BOYETT to the accompanying direct and cross Inter propounded by him in the above entitled cause taken before Frank W. ROBERTS a notry (sic) public in & for Wise County Texas in accordance with the accompanying agreement. To the 1st mt. he answered: My name is J. E. BOYETT.  I am 69 yrs old I reside at Chico Texas, and Chico Texas my Post Office.  To the 2nd he answers: I personally knew E. W. BOYETT  To mt 3d he answers: I have known E. W. BOYET 60 yrs. Knew him first in Gibson Co Tenn about 1846.

To Int No. 4 he answers: I personally knew that E. W. BOYETT enlisted in the Confederate service and performed the duties of a soldier.  To Int no 5 he answers: I do.  He enlisted in Co. H. 47 Reg Tenn Inf. in the fall of 1861, at Trenton and served until the close of the war.

To Int no 6 he answers: I do not know.

To + Int No.  7  he answers:  I knew that he enlisted inthe Confederate service because I was present at the time. I served with him all through the war.  THere was no other E. W. BOYETT in the Reg. & Co.

To cross Int no 2 he answers: I am.
To cross Int no 3 he answers: nothing
To + Int no X he answers: E. W. BOYETT never deserted the service
of the Confederacy.

REED to the accompanying direct and cross interrogative propounded to him in the above entitled cause taken before Frank W. ROBERTS a notary public in and for Wise County Texas in accordance with the accompanying agreement

Answer of the witness J. G. REED:

To the 1st Direct interrogatory - he answers: "I am 69 yrs old, my name is J. G. REED, I reside on a farm in Wise Co., Texas. My post office address is Alvord Tex R.F.D. No. 1.

To the 2nd Int he answers: I knew E. W. BOYETT from about 1855 until abut 1875.
To the 3d he answers: I have known him about 20 yrs, first - knew him in Gibson Co., Tenn

To mt 4th he answers: I personally know that E. W. BOYETT enlisted in the service of the Confederacy and that he performed the duties of a soldier.
To Int 5th he answers:  I do.  He enlisted in the Confederate army in the fall of 1861, at Trenton Tenn; he served until the close of the war.  He served in the 47th Reg Tenn Inf Co H.

[Answer to the next question was recorded in the top left margin of the second page of this two-page deposition.]
To Int 6th he answers:  I do not know He had an eye shot out and his nose broken at Atlanta Ga in 1863.  I do not think he is able to earn a living by labor.

To cross Int 2 he answers: I am positively certain that E. W. BOYETT is the identical serving as testified by me.
To Cross Int 3d he answers:  My answer to direct Int no 6 is based upon conjecture.
To cross Int 4th he answers: I personally know that E. W. BOYETT never deserted the service of the confederate army.

An undated receipt in the file shows that J. C. FRONEBERGER received $30.00 derived from the Confederate Pension Fund.  [This is probably a mortuary receipt.]

Burel BOYETT had a son William who moved to Alabama.

James A. BOYETT b. @ 1821 in GA md. Martha TURMAN.  He served in
Co. F, 33rd Alabama Infantry.  He enlisted 11 Mar 1862.  He died in
Gainesville,  AL on 19 July 1862;  his brother-in-law,  F.  M.
ALSABROOK, was with him.

Their children were all born in Covington Co.,AL and were:

2.    Courtney  b. Oct 1850 md. Wesley E. POTTER.
3.    James Edward  b. Dec 1851  md. Lucinda WASDEN

When the 1850 and 1860 U.S. Censuses were enumerated for Covington Co., AL there were several BOYETT's who stated their place of birth was North Carolina.  These include Bennett b. @ 1794, Mary b. @ 1784, James b. @ 1784, and Burel.

James Henry d. 1863 (Civil War?) in Wayne Co., NC and is bur. in Lenoir Wheat Swamp Cem.  He is mentioned in his Uncle Kitchen Smith's will; Kitchen d. 1862.  James Henry is the son of Taylor and Nancy SMITH.

Joyce Boyette, 1422 W. Clio Dr., Pensacola, FL 32505 wishes to exchange data with others doing research on the BOYETT families of Covington Co., AL.  She notes that one group is from NC--those individuals having been born there in the 17908--and the other group was born in GA between 1811-1830.   Is there a connection between these families?  Joyce also has information on Lucy COON, wife of Emanuel Delaney BOYETT which she will share.
