Carolina at the rate of fifty shillings per 100 acres. George ["Jorge"] was listed in the

  5

1799 tax list as a resident in Capt. Johnthan (sic) STANSIL's Company. George owned
300 acres and had one free poll, no black polls, or stud horses. In 1800 he was taxed for
300 acres in O'NEIL's Co.; at that time he was also taxed for one black. In 1800 he is listed in the census as being bet 26 & 45; there were two females bet 16 & 26 and one under 10; there was one male under 10. Also in the county at this time was Thomas BOYETTE who was the same age as George. In 1802 and 1803 he was taxed on the same, but in PRICE's district. The 1804 tax list for Johnston Co., shows that he owned 400 acres. By 1805 he was taxed in PRICE's District for 600 acres and one black. In 1805 and 1810 he was appointed overseer of the road in Nathan STANSIL's place according to Johnston Co., NC Court Records. In 1806 he had 600 acres and 3 blacks and remained in PRICE's District. In 1807 he was only taxed for 500 acres and no blacks. In 1810-1814 he was taxed for 800 acres in Price's District; only in 1812 was he taxed for a black. In 1815 and 1816 he had 700 acres valued at $500 and was in HOLDER's District. He served in the War of 1812 and applied for and received a pension from the federal government.   In 1817 he had 700 acres in HOULDER's District, valued at $300 and located on the Little Buffalo, but the 1818 tax list shows him with 860 acres valued at $800 in HOULDER's District. The 1819 list shows the same number of acres valued at $860 on Little Buffalo, and he did not have to pay a poll tax indicating that he was exempted for some reason. In 1820 he was taxed on 860 acres and paid the poll tax. He was in O'NEAL's District in 1819 and 1820. He may be a brother of Isaac of Edgecombe Co., NC or Joseph BOYET who is listed in 1799 tax list for Johnston Co., NC in Capt. Simon PEARCE's Company, eleven households from Patrick O'NEAL. Sometime prior to 1850 a slave house was built on the land; it is listed in a National Register of Historic Places because of its unique construction. It is a one-room log house of hand-hewn planks held together by full dove-tail notches and pegs. The unusual mud and stick chimney is the only one known to be still in tact in North Carolina and is located on the farm near Kenly, NC in the Glendale Community. In 1850 George and Tamsey were living with their son, Larkin G. At that time they were farming 100 acres and the main crops were corn and sweet potatoes. At an advanced age, George became blind. George's will is dated 10 Aug 1844 and was probated in Johnston Co. during August Court, 1852 recorded in WB I, p.659. George had one so and one daughter both b. bet 1790 and 1800; he was bet 26 and 45, and there were two females b. bet 1774 and 1784. Their children were: Penelope, Cally, Larry, James, Garry, Martha, and Larkin G. [TLJNC, TRJNC, RWPEN, CRJNC, WBJNC, 85JNC, 1812P, 8OWNC, BNII:4:2-3]

Henry BOYTE/BOYET b. before 1788 of Wayne Co., NC; son of Mary "Polly" (WORRELL)
BOYET and grandson of David WORRELL. Joseph BOYET witnessed David
WORRELL's last will on 10 Dec 1788 in Wayne County which was recorded in Will
Book I, p.161 and numbered 78. The will was presented to January Court 1789. It is
possible that Henry was a son of Joseph. In Deed Book 12, page 236 is a deed from
Henry BOYTE to Mary BOYTE, both of Wayne Co., dated 15 Aug 1827. He received
$300 from Mary for land on the south side of the Nahunta and on both sides of Dennis's
Branch containing 236 acres. Adjacent land owners were John MITCHELL and a
RAIFORD. Witnesses were Avery BOYTE, Robert BOYTE, and Henry BOYTE. The
deed was proven in court and registered Aug 1827. Wayne Co., NC Deed Book 13, page
269 shows a mortgage between Mary BOYT and Henry BOYT for debts owed James C.

COLE and Arnold BORDEN of the firm of Arnold BORDER and Co. The parcel of land contained 200 acres; other property included was a twenty-eight year old slave names Charles, and two horses. The debt was for $247 which BORDEN Co. paid John and Richard WASHINGTON, Merchants of Waynesboro, and two other debts; one due Washington and Wright Merchants for $107, and a $351.78 debt Henry and Mary owed BORDEN and COLE. Mary BOYT and Henry BOYT were allowed to keep possession of said land, negro, and horses according to the mortgage signed 21 Nov 1827 and registered in the Nov 1827 court. On 5 Aug 1831 as detailed in Deed Book 15, page 478, Henry BOYTE and Mary BOYTE of Wayne Co., sold their land to Arnold BORDEN and Co. (for the $700 debt). Their land was described as being 200 acres on the south side of the Nahunta and both sides of Dennis Branch. Witnesses were James GRANTHAM and Raymond FREELY. It was registered in Feb 1833 court. Henry's mother, "Polly" BOYTE wrote her will on 12 Aug 1837, and it was probated during the February term of court in 1838 in Wayne Co., NC on the oaths of the two witnesses, Stephen PATE and Thomas A. DEANES. Apparently, Henry was the only surviving child of Polly in 1837. During the same term of court Micajah BOYTE made an indenture to John and Richard WASHINGTON and Kedar RAIFORD. Micajah owed the Washingtons $60.87 and wanted to secure, so he sold property to RAIFORD. [LRWNC, WBWNC, BNI:2: 17, BNII:4:9-10, BNII:4: 14-15]
