The following data is NOT complete, but to finish what was started in 1993, it is being sent without several additional sources including From Boyt to Boyette and Volumes III through VIII of the Boyt/e-Boyet/t/e Newsletter.

Editor's Note: This concludes the preliminary draft of the alphabetical listing of names. In referencing this compilation, please use several precautions. In most cases, given names are presented herein as found in the original records, this often includes what appears to be obvious misspellings. The surnames are also given as found in the original documents. When these records show differing spellings, these are included and indicated with a I" between.

Please be sure to check the listing for entries included herein with initials, a nickname, middle name, and misspelled names. If you are referring to the list for a common given name and the number of entries seem overwhelming, check for an entry for a siblings or parent. These may given data which will help isolate your individual from the others.

Also, it should be noted that individuals born after 1900 are not included. This was done to make the file manageable.

Several explanations are necessary for normal people to understand my frenzied application of terms in this compilation. First, if a date is preceded by est that indicates that the date is nothing more than the editor's guess (at times, these have proven to be horribly off and in a few instances they have been found to be rather close). Nevertheless, please use you best judgment is taking estimated dates as sound. Also, as a matter of explication of my use of "est” I normally used a 30-span bet parent and child's birthdate; exceptions were when I knew the oldest or youngest child's birthdate. I tried to use an 18 age for military service, but often this proved erroneous, especially in the case where a father and two of his sons served in the same war. In the case of marriages I usually used approximate ages of 22 and 20 for the groom and bride respectively; but you may find some variation over time as I think in the beginning of creating this compilation I was using 21 and 18.

When a "cal" precedes a date, this is the calculated year of a person's birth, marriage, or death based upon their age in a particular record. For instance if an individual was 18 in 1850, then I used b. cal 1832 as their birthyear. If their age varied from one document to another, each of these differences are indicated and separated with a "~" or the term "or."

Unfortunately, this listing is very incomplete for several reasons. Firstly, soon after I began this work, I soon realized that it was going to be immense and unwieldy. So, I purposefully tried not to duplicate work already published, i.e. in my book From Boyt to Boyette: The Descendants of Thomas Boyet and in the Boyt/e-Boyet/t/e Newsletter, particularly volumes 3 thru 8. Therefore, literally thousands of additional entries eventually need to be added to this data base. In addition, information in both publications will greatly clarify and enhance a multitude of entries in this compilation if one takes the time to do the necessary comparison work.

Secondly, several times during the past month as I worked at the data entry, I had computer problems which unfortunately caused loss of data several times. Once when my computer literally crashed, everything that had been input during the previous week was lost, some of which I was unable to retrieve even after the computer was repaired. [A bit of explanation here is necessary. Initially, one reason I began this massive compilation was to clear my files of thousands of family group sheets which I had compiled over the past twenty years. Thus, after data from these sheets was completed, I threw them out. Several times during the computer crises, I had to retrieve the sheets and start all over again, but a few times, the trash had left the house and was totally irretrievable. Yuck!1

Secondly, several subscribers sent stacks of data, some of which was so massive that I was unable to include it in this compilation. Although please be assured that these very valuable contributions to the Boyt/e-Boyet/t/e family history 18 not going to be overlooked for any great length of time. As soon as I've completed my Ph.D. my next project is to completes comprehensive list of all the Boyt/e-Boyet/t/e families in the United States up to 1900.

Jim farmed in the 10th Civil District, Gibson Co., TN, then by 1870 was farming in Civil District 9, near Kenton Station. He served in the CSA during the CW in Co., C, 20th TN Cav. Later received a pension for his service. They left Gibson Co before 1880 and moved to Logan Co., AR where other BOTTOMS family members lived. Hulda d. in Logan Co., AR on 17 Apr 1883. Jim m. (2) in 1885 to Fannie Parlee SNIDER. Jim and Fannie had four children: Barney Clinton, Thomas Luther, Barbara Etta, and Dora Mae. The family moved to Cloud Chief, Indian Territory (OK) about 1886. On 28 Feb 1784 Shadrack bought 100 acres from Elijah and Mary DAUGHTRY of Northampton Co. The land was on Curteses Branch, adjoining William BRYANT's land. Witnesses were William CAMPBELL, Eurodice CAMPBELL, and James BRYAN[T]. Two days later he witnessed a transaction from John and Martha DAWSON (of Edgecombe Co.) to Jason BRYANT of Northampton Co. At the Cahaba Land Office, James and Elizabeth deeded 120 acres each to their sons James and Thomas on 23 July 1852. In Apr 1856 he was living in Midway, Bullock Co., AL. A witness to these transactions was Gibson BOYETT. James is listed in the court minutes of Lowndes Co.. AL in Aug 1866. and he d. in Lowndes Co.. AL prob Sep 1866 as his estate was submitted to probate on 30 Sep 1866 in Lowndes Co [Bk 7, pp.403-S and Bk 16 pp. 150. 155,275. and 381]. Some of his probate records were recorded in Crenshaw Co., AL (Bk A, p. 44-46). Their son Thomas James. Jr. was executor of the estate. The probate records are scattered among several counties. William BOYET b. est 1730, a Planter, of Edgecombe and Nash counties, NC; parents unknown. He d. aft 1796. He purchased land from Thomas ROBINS in Feb 1750 in Edgecombe Co. The deed was proved on oath of George BROWN. He served on a petit jury for Edgecombe County in Sep 1760. He served on a road crew in June 1760 for Edgecombe Co. In Sep and Dec 1761 he served as overseer on Dews road from Robins Bridge (Godwins Bridge in Dec) and Dews Mill on Toisnot Swamp on the south side of the creek which at that time was in Edgecombe Co, but in 1777 became Nash Co. Toisnot Creek is in both Nash and Martin counties. In Sep 1762 William served on the petit jury, in Jan 1763 on the grand jury, and in Oct 1763 on the petit jury for Edgecombe Co. He sold 200 acres in Edgecombe Co 18 Jan 1771 to Thomas ROBINS; the land was decribed as on Joiner's Branch. The witnesses were Dun. LAMON and Thos. DIXON [DIXON served as a witness with Benjamin LANCASTER in Edgecombe Co in Nov 1768.1. Land he sold on 18 Jan 1771 was described as being on Joiner’s Branch. Then he sold land to Thomas ROBINS in Feb 1771, which sale was proved in Edgecombe Co. by Duncan LAMON. After Edgecombe was divided and Nash Co created, William served as part of the crew to work on Dews road from the fork of the same out to Toisnot in April 1778 in Nash Co; neighbors also on the crew were Michael HORNE, Gabriel, John, and Aaron PARKER, Francis VANLANDINGHAM, Lamons DE[torn] and John GORDON. Also on this crew was Jacob BOYD [BOYET]. William received a land grant from the State of NC on 25 Oct 1782 for a tract of 214 acres on the north side of Tar River and on Lott's Branch adjoining Michael HORN and the [Wilson/Nash] county line. William sold some of this land to Michael HORN on 5 Jan 1784; this land was on the east side of Lott's Branch, a branch of Toisnot, and other land owned by William, the [Wilson/Nash] county line, and HORN. Witnesses were Dempsey DAWSON, Jonas WILLIAMS, and Jeremiah NICHOLS. In 1784 when Elizabeth PARKER received a grant from the State of NC. it was noted that William BOYET's land bordered her grant.He was cited as owning adjoinging land in a deed between Richard and Thomas WINSTEADs on 27 Sep 1791; deed gives description as on the

north side of a prong of Town Creek. Other neighbors were Duncan LAMON and Archichlus (sic) LAMON. On 9 Sep 1796 William sold to Solomon D. PARKER 114 acres on east side of Lott's Branch, a branch of Toisnot, adjoining the William BOYET plantation line and the county line. Witnesses were Jonas and Beersheba WILLIAMS. William BOYT b. est 1750 of Duplin Co., NC; prob son of Moses BOYT. One record gives his name as William B. BOYT. He m. Jane (b. est 1750 of Duplin Co., NC and d. aft 8 Mar 1834). His brothers are believed to be Arthur, Ephraim, and Samuel. William was taxed in 1814 in Duplin Co. He was bet 80 and 89 years in 1830 and was still living in 1834 when lie applied for a Rev War pension. During the Rev War he served from Wayne and Duplin counties, NC. He was drafted under Col. KENAN and Capt Hardy HOLMES for 3 mo. He was sent to near Fayetteville, then down the river to Elizabeth in Bladen Co.. NC. Then served a tour under Gen EATON and Capt. Hardy HOLMES. Drafted for 9 mo. started from Duplin Co, joined army at Elizabeth, NC and went on thru SC to Augusta then to Berks Co where he was stationed. During his second term of service, he was a spy in the Creek Nation of Indians and fought at Briar Creek, but was defeated and swam river on retreat. In his deposition he stated that he "dropped his gun to save a man from drowning" and saved his life. He managed to catch up with come American officers on the "Duplin side" of Savannah River in SC. One statement shows that he entered service at the fork of Little and Neuse rivers. He was discharged in GA in 1779. During his third term of service, he was drafted for 6 mo. just bef the close of the Rev War. Started from Duplin. met army or joined it at Elizabeth, marched toward the SC line then towards Brunswick, crossed NW twice, then marched to the NE river to the big bridge abt 10 miles from Wilmington. The bridge was gone, but they stayed there 5 or 6 weeks. Col. McMudday joined them. William was in co. with Maj. NOLTON, Maj. James Galaspie. Left bridge for Duplin Co. to ascertain the movements of the British, but British had gone to Newbern. He returned and helped mend bridge and persued British as far as Newbern. He was discharged soon aft "Cornwallis was taken." He deposed that he "never received any pay while in service" and was given $50 in continental money when discharged in Newbern "and he give it for a piper." Totally he said he served 18 mo. He rec'd no pension prior to 1834. He stated that lie lived most of his life bef. dur, and aft Rev War in Duplin Co.. except for one yr when lie lived in Lenoir Co.. NC on the Tuckaho. He served under Gen Ash of Hanover. Major Molton of Duplin, Col Kenan, Col Charly Ward, Stephen Miller, Capt James Galaspy, Ma James Love, Capt Hardy Holmes, and Sgt Joseph Macarto all of Duplin Co., NC Also Gen Eaton, Col Malmuddy. and Maj Henderson. Elizabeth ________ (b. bet 1755 and 1776 and d. aft 25 June 1808). He was sued by William WILLIAMS on 4 Feb 1789; the case was dismissed. He served on the Grand Jury from 4 May 1789 thru 3 Aug 1789. In Jan 1788 he was sued by Henry ROBERTSON. On 4 Aug 1789 he stated on oath that he had witnessed others witness a bill of sale from Josias BOYET to Edmund BENTLEY. On 3 Nov 1788 he was ordered to appraise the estate of Richard HANKINSON. On [4 Sep 1789 he witnessed a sale. The following 2 Aug he and Josiah BOYET were fined for killing a stray steer, and on 4 Aug Queeney ANTHONY sued William. William (or his father] was ordered by the court to work on the road which began at or near the courthouse, crossed the Sappona and Tarr rivers to the road leading to Viverettes Mill in Feb 1785. Other crew included Edward GANDY, John WHITEHOUSE, John EVANS, William and Christopher BALLARD, John WHIDDON, Mark COOPER, John SHEPHERD, William BAKER, David PRIDGEON, Joseph WINSTEAD, Philander WILLIAMS, Stephen WELLS, and Thomas VIVRETT. He and his brother Jordan were ordered to work on the road under Aaron PARKER in Aug 1793. Other road crew were Solomon D. and John PARKER, Arthur LOCUS, and Thomas WINSTEAD.
