Amos Garris II


Will of Amos Garris II, Southampton co., Va:

"In the name of God Amen, I Amos Garris of south Hampton county being in a low state of health but in perfect sence and memory knowing the uncertainty of life, do make and appoint this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as follows.

First and principally I recommend my soul to God that gave it me and my body to be decently buried at the descretion of my exeuctors here after appointed and for what wordly estate it hath pleased the lord to bestow one I dispose of in manner following.

I give and bequeath to Wm Garris, sone of Joshua Garris and his heirs & asyns forever all my right and title to a certain tract or parcel of land I purchased of William Arrington it lying and being in North Hampton Co North Carolina to him and his heirs forever.

Item. I leave me neg. man Will to be sold a publick sale at McCudit and the money to be equally divided between Amos, John, Joshua, Benjamin, and Hannah Garris and Susannah Dupree, the wife of Haley Dupree to them and their heirs forever.

Item. My will and desire is that all my goods and chattles of all kinds whatsoever not heretofore mentioned to be sold immediately after my death as soon as possible at publick sale with McCudit the purchasors giving bond and security and the money arising thereon after my just debts and funeral charges are defined to be equally divided between Amos Garris, John Garris, Joshua Garris, Susannha dupree and Lidia Garris the daughter of Hannah Garris when she comes to the age of 16 or married and I appoint my son John Garris, John Sturgeon my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament involving and disannuling all other will period by me made before. As witness my hand and seal this 15 day of February in the year of our lord 1771. I desire my estate not be appraised....."
