Cecelia Caroline Campbell was born March 27, 1824 and died September 15, 1880 (cemetery records). She is buried in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio. The marriage information in the Perry County records and also in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church records show that Cecelia Caroline's name was Reynolds (at time of marriage)--- however, the biography of her son (Alexander C. Caine) says that her brothers name was Samuel Campbell. "His mother's maiden name was Campbell, a sister of Samuel C. Campbell, of Effingham, Illinois" is the information in the History of Fairfield and Perry Counties, 1883. In the death certificate of Cecelia's son, Samuel Albert Caine, it is stated that her maiden name is Carolyn Campbell.
Somerset Press article on Sept 30, 1880: 'Sam Campbell and wife arrived here on Frinday evening last. They were telegraphed the death of Mrs. Cain, but received the sad intelligence too late to reach here in time for the funeral."
Somerset Press, September 23, 1880, Obituary: Died, on Wednesday evening, Sept 15, 1880, Mrs. Caroline C. Caine, wife of Mrs Isaiah Cain, aged 56 years, 6 months and 8 days. She was the mother of ten children, two daughters and eight sons. One daughter and three sons preceded her to 'the house appointed for all the living." She was a devoted and loving wife, a kind neighbor and friend, the idol of her household, andloved and respected by all who knew her. Heavy and grievous to be borne is the hand Affliction laid upon the surviving husband and children. May the angels of Hope and Peace pour the oil of consolation into their troubled hearts, and may they find comfort in the knowledge that she, whom they loved and who loved them so well, "Has gone to dwell at last, In the House Beautiful." Mrs. Caroline c. Caine, the subject of this sketch, was far above the ordinary. She possessed many beautiful and admirable traits of character. In her Christian life she was constant and under all circumstances, consistent. With the strongest domestic and maternal instincts she was enabled to make her home the happiest spot on earth for its members; indeed, her great ambition seemed to be to do her duty in this respect, and well she succeeded. Humble and unassuming, she taught, by her good life, a lesson that was profitable to all that were brought under its influence. Possible the most marked feature in her excellent character was her patriotism. The interest she always felt in the affairs and condition of her country were only broken by death. This devotion to country was subjected ot the severest trial, when she consented to give up her three sons, John L., Henry B., and Alex. C, during the late war, to defend the land she loved. No Spartan mother could have made a greater sacrifice. As life was fast ebbing away this characteristic trait was as strong as ever. A few hours before her death, fully aware of the approaching end, she exhorted her sons "To be true to their country and their God" And thus departed a consistent Christian, a devoted wife and mother.
Isaiah was listed on the 1851 Perry Co, Ohio Soldier Enumeration list of males in the county over 21. His brother, Lewis Cain was also listed.
Isaiah was a tailor in the town of Somerset according to census records. We found the following ad in the newspaper, Somerset Tribune, May 30, 1872, Somerset, Ohio: "Having procurred the services of a first class journeyman, Isaac Cain is now prepared to do first class tailoring on short notice. Call and get fit."
Somerset PRess, October 7, 1880: "Isaiah Caine has made ten wedding suits within the past thirty days. He has received his Winter styles and guarantees a perfect fit in all his work."

John L. Cain was born October 14, 1843 in Perry County, Ohio the son of Isaiah and Cecelia Caine. He died November 4, 1886 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. He was married to Emily L. 'Emma' Law. They had a daughter, Sarah "Sallie" Cain (married to George Melvin) born about 1876. Emma Law was born June 18, 1844 in Somerset, Perry Co. Ohio and died March 11, 1915 at Columbus, Franklin Co. Somerset Tribune, Somerset, Ohio: October 3, 1872 "Mr John L. Caine and lady, of Pittsburg, are visiting friends in this place. Mr. Caine has at this time a lucrative position in the Dispatch office in Pittsburgh, and it affords us pleasure to announce that he is in a prestigous condition."
Somerset Press, Sept 2, 1880: "Mr. John L. Caine, wife and child, of Pittsburg, Pa. are visiting relatives at this place. John L attended the reunion at Columbus, a few weeks since, being a member of the Thirty-first O.V. V Infantry, which organization numbered among its members several hundred Perry county boys. We wish John L. prosperity."
His obituary was listed in the Columbus Daily Times on November 6, 1886. "Death of Lohn L. Caine, A Well Known Printer Crosses the River. Mr. John L. Caine died at his home on East Spring Street, at four o'clock yesterday morning, of complication of diseases, which have threatened his death for a long time. Mr. Caine was born near Somerset, in Perry county, October 14, 1843. He spent his boyhood days in that part of the State. When the war began he enlisted in July of 1861, and was assigned to the 31st O.V.I. He served honorably as a private until the close of the rebellion, when he was honorably dischared. In 1866-7 Mr. Caine published the Somerset Record, then the Republican organ of Perry county. A few years later he went to Pittsburgh, where he worked at his trade- that of a printer- until 1882, when he came to this city, where he has lived ever since, and during most of which time he spent employed on the Times. Mr. Caine was a good printer, and a man of pleasant address. He was always ready to do his fellows a service, and his general demeanor was such as to draw to him many warm friends. No one among all the printers in Columbus was liked better than Mr. Caine, and his death is a source of profound sorrow to many. He leaves behind him a wife and one girl, aged about ten years. The funeral will take place tommorrow morning at nine o'clock, from his late home on East Spring street. The services will be in charge of Columbus Typographical Union No. 5, of which the deceased was a respected member.
Emma Caine's obituary appeared in the Columbus Daily Times on March 11, 1915. "Mrs. Emma L. Caine, 70, died of diabetes, Thursday at her home, 120 1/2 North Grant Avenue. One daughter, Miss Sarah Caine, survives. Funeral services at 2:30pm Saturday at Central M.E. church. Burial in Green Lawn by the Fisher company."
Henry B. Cain was born about 1846 and died January 2, 1864 (per cemetery records). He was a Private in the 31st Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was wounded at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863. He died of his wounds in Nashville, Tennessee on January 2, 1864 and was buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio.

"Representative Men of Ohio, 1896-97", James Mercer, C.N. Vallandigham, authors; published 1896. Alexander Clinton Caine was born in Somerset, Perry county, Ohio, December 9 1849. He received his education in the common schools of his native village. During the first year of the rebellion he volunteered in the Thirty-first Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and in September, 1862, he re-enlisted in the Ninetieth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served his country with that regiment until June, 1864. At the close of the war he engaged in commercial pursuits until January 1886, when he was appointed by General Axline a clerk in the office of the adjutant general of Ohio, where he remained until January, 1888. Mr. Caine was then appointed by Hon. E. W. Poe land clerk in the office of the auditor of state, which position he retained until January, 1892, when he was elected chief clerk of the Ohio state senate. He was re-elected without opposition for the Seventy-first general assembly, and again chosen chief clerk of the senate for the Seventy-second general assembly, beginning January, 1896. Mr. Caine has always been an active republican, and he has served as a member of the state central and state executive committees. He was married June 25, 1890, to Miss Julia Smithnight, of Cleveland, Ohio. They have a son, Louis Smithnight Caine. Mr. Caine is a Mason, Knight Templar, Shriner, and a Knight of Pythias.

Samuel married Martha Sophia Exner. She was born about 1854 and died June 17, 1933 in Somerset, Reading twp, Perry Co., Ohio. She is buried in the Somerset Methodist Cemetery, Row 5. The cemetery records and her tombstone show her name as Martha S. Caine, however her will and probate records show her name as Sophia Caine. The Last Will & Testament and "Application for Probate of Will" lists their children as: Caroline Kline, Jay Caine, Lulu Hinger, Cora McElroy, Anna Belle Caine.
