Old Postcards
Scans and Notes kindly provided by Kath Marvill

Derby Road - Swarkestone Road junction, looking south
c. 1900 - the house on the right was a toll house - now sadly demolished)

Chellaston High Street
looking at the costume of the children sitting on the steps, c. 1910

Rose and Crown, Chellaston - a postmark of 1936 suggests a probable date of early 1930's
there is a car in the distance , which appears on several other postcards - I suspect it may be the photographer's
School Lane, Chellaston - probably c. 1950s (from the costume of the lady walking)
This view has not changed all that much, apart from the tree not being there anymore. I understand it was planted as a "Coronation Tree" but am not absolutely sure.

Derby Road at the junction with Sinfin Moor Lane about the 1940s- the roof of the old Red Lion can be seen in the distance with the central chimney. The old Red Lion was unfortunately replaced in the 1960s.

High Street about 1905. The postmark on this card is May 16th 1909.

St Peter's Church about 1910. This is an interesting card by E. Martin of Melbourne showing the churchyard as well as the church. A grave is in process of being dug!

St Peter's Church about 1950. The vicarage to the right of the church was replaced with a modern version in the 1960s or 70s.
