1. In accordance with 2nd Cdn. Divl. M.G. Bn. Operation Order No. 29, reliefs will be carried out night Oct 3/4th 1917, as follows :- 

(a) The 6th C M G Coy will be relieved in the line by corresponding sections 14th C M G Coy.
2. 2 Guides from Coy Hdqrs 6th C M G Coy will meet Hdqrs plus 3 & 4 Sections 14th C M G Coy at Bde Hdqrs PETIT VIMY S.24.c.4½.5½ at 7.30 p.m. and will guide party to ration dump T.20.b.30.60.

2 Guides from No. 2 Section 6th C M G Coy will meet Nos. 1 & 2 Section 14th C M G Coy at Bde Hdqrs PETIT VIMY S.24.c.4½.5½ at 7.30 p.m. and guide party to ration dump T.13.b.90.70. 
Guides from each crew Nos. 1 & 2 Sections 6th Coy will meet Nos. 1 & 2 Section 14th Coy at Ration Dump T.13.b.90.70 at 8 p.m. Guides from each crew Nos. 3 & 4 Section 6th Coy (and Hdqrs) will meet Hdqrs, Nos 3 & 4 Sections 14th Coy at Ration Dump T.20.b.30.60 at 8 p.m.
3. 14 filled belts & boxes per gun will be turned over to relieving sections.
4. All maps, aeroplane photographs and Trench Stores will be handed over to relieving sections receipts being taken and forwarded to Coy Hdqrs. Full details of work in progress will be handed over to relieving sections.
5. Limbers for Hdqrs Nos. 3 & 4 Sections will be at ration dump T.20.b.30.60 at 9.30 p.m. Limbers for Nos. 1 & 2 Sections will be at ration dump T.13.b.90.70 at 9.30 p.m.
6. On completion of relief 6th C M G Coy will move by sections to billets vacated by 4th Coy at Maisnil Bouche.
7. Camp at X.28.c.60.80 will be turned over to 4th Coy intact. No tents or tarpaulins to be removed.
8. Completion of relief to be notified to Coy Hdqrs by runner.

"As the Canadian Corps is now leaving my Command, I wish to express to you my warm appreciation of the good work done by your troops during the time that they served in the First Army.

You have had a great and glorious year. The discipline, good spirit and soldierlike qualities displayed by all ranks have enabled you to carry out to completion each task which you had been called upon to undertake.

The importance of successful operations elsewhere calls for your presence and co-operation. I am confident that the same fine fighting spirit which has been shewn by all ranks during the Operations against the VIMY RIDGE and in the LENS Area will be again apparent, and I look forward with confidence to your further success. I am very sorry that you are leaving my Command, but I hope to welcome you back later on.

1. In accordance with 2nd Canadian Division Operation Order No. 152 (para 5), of October 1st 1917, the Machine Gun Company reliefs will be carried out on the night of October 3/4th 1917, as follows:- 

(a) The 14th Canadian M.G. Company will relieve the 6th Canadian M.G. Company, in the line. 
(b) The 4th Canadian M.G. Company will relieve the 14th Canadian M.G. Company in close support. 
Reliefs will be completed by daylight of October 4th 1917.
2. Upon completion of relief the 6th Canadian M.G. Company will occupy billets vacated by the 4th Canadian M.G. Company, at MAISNIL BOUCHE, and the 4th Canadian M.G. Company will occupy camp vacated by the 6th Canadian M.G. Company at X.28.c.60.80. The 6th Canadian M.G. Company will leave this camp intact, no tents of tarpaulins to be removed.
3. Details of relief will be arranged directly between Company Commanders concerned.
4. Full details of the work in progress will be handed over to the relieving Company, and the relieving Company will be responsible that this work is carried out.
5. No movement will take place during hours of daylight East of Vimy Ridge.
6. Immediately relief is complete Os. C. Companies will report personally to the G.O.C. the Brigade, in whose area they are working.
7. Completion of relief will be reported by wire to this office by the Code phrase " COSINE. "
8. All Maps, Aeroplane photos, and Trench Stores, will be handed over to the relieving Company, and a receipt taken for same, and a copy rendered to this Office.
9. Disposition reports showing disposition of garrison and location of guns, also Trench Strength in Officers and O.Rs., will be rendered to this Office by 10 a.m. October 4th.
10. Usual night firing to be carried out by Company in front line. S.A.A. expended to be gradually increased to 20,000 rounds per night. This amount not to be exceeded.
11. ACKNOWLEDGE.

1. The proposed Operations are temporarily postponed, but all preparations in forward area, and also special training will be continued as far as circumstances will admit.
2. The 4th. Canadian M.G. Company will be prepared to relieve the M.Gs. of the 3rd. Division in the forward area on the night 6/7th. October, 1917.
3. O.C. 4th. Canadian M.G. Company will call on O.C. 15th. Canadian M.G. Company at Advance Headquarters "BUSHEY" T.22.c.60.50, and make arrangements for guides etc.

Reference 2nd Canadian Divisional O.O. No. 155 dated October 13th 1917, para 5.

1. The 2nd Divisional Machine Gun Battalion will be relieved by the Machine Gun Companies of the 48th (South Midland) Division, in accordance with attached relief and movement tables.
2. Command of the Line (Mericourt and Chaudiere Sections), will pass from G.O.C., 2nd Canadian Division, to G.O.C., 48th Division, at 10 a.m. October 18th.
3. The 4th Canadian Machine Gun Company will be relieved by the 143rd Bde Machine Gun Company, on the night of 15/16th October. Relief to be completed before daylight 16th October.
4. The 5th Canadian Machine Gun Company will be relieved by the 144th Bde Machine Gun Company, on the night of 16/17th October. Relief to be completed before daylight 17th October.
5. The relief of the Machine Gun Companies will be arranged direct between O.C. Machine Gun Companies concerned, and 4th and 5th Canadian Machine Gun Companies will have guides at AUX RIETZ, Rear Headquarters to guide respective relieving Machine Gun Companies to forward area, where they will meet Section guides.
6. Full details of the work in progress will be handed over to relieving Company.
7. All Maps, Aeroplane photos, Trench Stores, S.A.A. etc., will be handed over to the relieving Company and a receipt taken for same, and a copy forwarded to M.G. Battalion Headquarters.

9. Machine Gun Companies will have quarters, areas, and Horse Lines in a sanitary condition, and O.C. Company must obtain a properly worded Clearance Certificate from Area Commandant and O.C. relieving Machine Gun Company, before leaving area.
10. Each of the Machine Gun Companies will send a Billeting Officer and N.C.O. to respective Billeting area, at least four hours in advance of the Company, and report to Town Major with list showing Company Strength.

2. On the 22nd instant, the personnel shown below will proceed to TINQUES before dark and report to the Staff Captains of their respective Brigade Groups at the station at 6.30 p.m. Staff Captains will check all their units and fill in numbers of officers, other ranks and bicycles on move orders to CAESTRE prepared in advance; and will report to the R.T.O. TINQUES at 9.00 p.m.
3. Staff Captains of Infantry Brigades will take with them motor cycle side-cars; all other personnel must be provided with bicycles. All personnel will carry blankets and three days rations. Brigade Staff Captains will be in charge of personnel from their respective Brigade Groups and will be responsible for such personnel for all purposes and for the allotment of billets to the units represented by such.
4. This billeting party will probably arrive at CAESTRE before noon on 23rd instant, and on arrival will be met at the R.T.O's office, CAESTRE, by the D.A.A.G.(B), 2nd Canadian Division (Major D.E.A. RISPIN.), who will be in charge of the party from that time until arrival of their respective units, and will make all necessary arrangements, including the advice to Staff Captains of detraining points of units.
5. Billeting parties of each Brigade Group will, on arrival, be reported to the Area Commandant, CAESTRE, by the D.A.A.G.(B), in company with Staff Captains, and information as to billeting areas given.
6. The following will constitute the billeting parties :-

8. HAZEBROUCK sheet 5.A. 1/100,000 should be taken by at least on representative from each unit.
9. The D.A.A.G.(B). will proceed by motor on the 22nd instant, and will keep in touch with the Traffic HAZEBROUCK until completion of move of the Division.
10. Copies of these instructions are being sent direct to each M.G. Coy., Field Coy., Train Coy., Field Ambce. And Sanitary Section.
11. ACKNOWLEDGE on 20th instant.

1. 2ND Canadian Division (less Divisional Artillery, No. 1 Coy. Divl. Train, Pioneer Battalion, Field Companies and Mechanical Transposr), with First Line Transport and Train baggage and supply wagons and attached Cable and Sanitary Sections will entrain in accordance with Time Table "A" which will be forwarded later. Entrainment will take place on the 24th and 25th insts., commencing at any time after midnight on the 23rd.

Units of the 4th Brigade Group will entrain at LIGNY ST. FLOCHEL; units of 5th Brigade Group at TINQUES; and units of 6th Brigade Group at SAVY.
2. Orders regarding the move of mechanical transport have been issued separately to those concerned.
3. Units will carry the current day's rations, and the supply wagons of the Train will be loaded with one day's rations.
4. Billeting parties will proceed from TINQUES on the 22nd inst. in accordance with this office A.Q. S/5/4 of 19th inst. These parties in addition to securing billets, will act as guides for units and will lead the same to their respective billets from detraining points. A location list, showing the Headquarters of all units, will be issued prior to entrainment.

Divld. Hqrs. will be located at CAESTRE. Units of the 4th Brigade Group will be billeted in the CAESTRE area, with Brigade Hqrs. at Billets 32, CAESTRE; Units of the 5th Brigade Group in the BORRE area, with Brigade Hqrs. at BORRE; and units of the 6th Brigade Group in the HONDEGHEM area, with Brigade Hqrs. at V.2.b.5.3., HONDEGEM.
5. The D.A.Q.M.G. will supervise the entrainment and keep in touch with Traffic, AVESNES.

The D.A.A.G.(B) will supervise the detrainment and will keep in touch with Traffic HAZEBROUCK.
6. Entraining Staff Officers will be detailed as follows :- 

LIGNY-ST. FLOCHEL	- 4th C.I. Bde.	1 Officer of Brigade Staff with 2 runners.
TINQUES	- 5th C.I. Bde.	1 Officer of Brigade Staff with 2 runners.
SAVY	- 6th C.I. Bde.	1 Officer of Brigade Staff with 2 runners.

These officers will report 3½ hours before 1st train leaves and be in charge of the entrainment at their respective stations under the direction of the D.A.Q.M.G., during the whole period of the move. They will proceed by the last train to rejoin their Brigades.
7. Detraining Staff Officers will be detailed as follows :-

Entraining and Detraining Staff Officers will report to the R.T.O's. concerned on arriving to take up their duties.

Detraining working parties will leave by first train for GODEWAERSVELDE, CAESTRE and CASSEL. Rations, fuel and forage for consumption 26th inst. must be supplied to these parties. S.S.O. will arrange for straw for billets.
Sheds will be available for billets at SAVY and LIGNY-ST. FLOCHEL. O.C. working party at TINQUES will apply to Town Major for billets - before arrival of party.
9. The A.P.M. will arrange for Traffic Control on the road approaches to the Entraining Stations and the policing of the Stations. At each Station the details on road control and police duty will leave by the last train carrying troops of the Division.

One N.C.O. and two men of the police attached to Infantry Brigades will proceed by first train to Detraining Stations without their horses, and with 48 hours' rations. They will report to R.T.O's. concerned and take over police duties until detraining is completed.
10. The A.D.M.S. will arrange for ambulances at all Entraining and Detraining Stations.
11. Each Battalion will detail a Picquet of 1 Officer and 20 N.C.O's. and men, and each other unit a Picquet of 1 Sergeant, 2 Corporals and 8 men. These Picquets will report to the Entraining Staff Officer at the Station immediately on arrival of the Unit. They will be on duty during the journey and until the unit has completed its detraining. The Picquets will be posted under instruction of the Entraining Staff Officer to prevent men wandering away or leaving the train after entrainment.

At intermediate stations, where the train stops, the Picquet will be used to prevent men leaving the train, except to ease themselves.
12. Supply Railhead will be moved to BAILLEUL on the 25th inst.
13. HOURS OF DEPARTURE.

The whole of the transport of each unit will arrive at the Entraining Station 3 hours before the train is due to leave.
All Infantry Battalions are to be at Entraining Stations 1½ hours prior to the departure of the trains.
All units, other than Infantry Battalions, will arrive at Entraining Stations 3 hours before their train leaves.
The entrainment of units must be completed ½ hour before the train is due to start.
14. O's.C. to Report Arrival.  O's.C. Units or detachments on arrival at the Station for entrainment will report to the Entraining Staff Officer.
15. CAPACITY OF TRAINS.  There is only accommodation on the trains for vehicles and animals up to the establishments laid down. There will, therefore, be no room for surplus vehicles, etc.
16. MARCHING OUT STATE.  A Marching Out State shewing the number of Officers, Other ranks, animals, 4 wheeled vehicles and bicycles entraining with the unit will be sent to the Station with the advance portion of each Unit and handed to the R.T.O. A copy of this State to be sent to 2nd Canadian Division Hqrs. "Q" Branch.
17. WATER.  Water carts will be filled before entrainment.

Units should water their horses before proceeding to entraining Stations. There are two troughs at TINQUES station, but at other two Stations facilities are poor. If possible, troughs at LIGNY Station will be filled by lorry tanks. A stream is all that is available at SAVY Station. There is a stand-pipe for water carts at TINQUES.
18. BREAST ROPES.  Breast ropes for horse trucks are to be provided by Units. Ropes for lashing vehicles on falt trucks are provided by the Railway. Heel ropes will serve as breast ropes.
19. BRAKE VAN.  No personnel or stores will be allowed in the BRAKE VAN at the end of each train.
20. AUTHORITY OF R.T.O.  Any instructions given by the R.T.O. with regard to entraining or detraining must be obeyed by all other ranks.
21. Blankets will be collected and moved to billets in new area under arrangements made by the D.A.Q.M.G., and notified to all concerned.
22. ACKNOWLEDGE.

1. Forwarded herewith Table "A" referred to in this office A.Q. S/3/7/ of 21st instant.

7. ACKNOWLEDGE.

1. The Battalions of the Brigade are distributed as follows :-

2. Boundary between Right and Left Sub-sections is the QUARRIES ROAD, which will be inclusive to Left sub-section.
3. The Battalions in the front line system will be responsible for the defence of the front and support lines, QUEBEC Trench, TEDDIE GERRARD Trench from its junction with QUEBEC Trench to MERICOURT ROAD and NEW BRUNSWICK Trench from its junction with QUEBEC Trench to ACHEVILLE ROAD.
4. One Company of the Battalion in Brigade Support will be responsible for the defence of MONTREAL Trench and NEW BRUNSWICK Trench South of ?OREVILLE ROAD. The remaining three companies of this Battalion will be accomodated in CANADA Trench and will be tactically under the orders of the G.O.C. 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade.
5. The Battalion in Brigade Reserve, NEUVILLE ST. VAAST, will be tactically under the orders of the G.O.C., 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade.
6. Each line will be held up to the last, and plans will be drawn up and arrangements made for immediately counter-attacking any positions which may be temporarily lost.
7. Sections, Platoons and Companies will be earmarked as counter-attacking parties.
8. It is not probable that the enemy will attack on a large scale, but as he is anxious to obtain identifications, attempts to raid our trenches may be expected. The most favourable place from the enemy's point of view, for a rain, is on our Right sub-section, as there is a great deal of dead ground immediately in front of our line.
9. Battalions in the front line will arrange to have No Man's Land constantly patrolled and will post "Listening Posts" in front of our wire at not greater than 100 yards intervals.
10. As many of all ranks as possible will make themselves familiar with the whole Brigade front. Officers and N.C.Os. of Companies detailed as counter-attacking companies and of Battalions and Companies tactically under the orders of the G.O.C. 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade will reconnoitre routes to all parts of the Brigade front. Orders for a counter-attack should be anticipated by Officers of these Companies, as far as possible, in order that if called upon a previously thought out plan could be put into action.
11. Officers will keep in touch with the guns of the Machine Gun Companies and Trench Mortar Batteries in their Battalion area and will ascertain their positions on arrival in the area. The O's.C. Machine Gun Companies and Trench Mortar Batteries will personally visit Battalion Commanders at frequent intervals.
12. Battalion in the front line will forward Defence Schemes to reach Brigade headquarters by 6 p.m. October 8th.
13. ACKNOWLEDGE.

1. The 2nd Canadian Division, on transfer from the First Army to the Second Army, is moving by rail and road.
2. The 6th Canadian Inf. Bde., plus Units attached forming the 6th Canadian Inf. Bde. Group, will move by rail commencing on the night of the 23rd October.
3. The Entraining Section will be at SAVY.
4. Units will move and entrain in accordance with the detailed instructions issued by Staff Captain "Q" in conjunction with this order.
5. The strictest march discipline will be observed by Units moving to and from entraining and detraining Station, and the attention of Os.C. Units is again directed to the necessity for enforcing same strict observance of orders by all ranks during the move at entraining and detraining points.
6. All billets will be left thoroughly clean and Os.C. Units will take steps to carry out a rigid inspection in view of the fact that billets will be vacated, in certain cases, at night.
7. The probable duration of the journey will be 7 hours.
8. Detraining Station will be at CASSEL.
9. Brigade Headquarters will close at CAMBLIGNEUL at 8.00 p.m. on the 23rd. inst. and will open at HONDEGHEM (2½ miles North of HAZEBROUCK) at noon on the 24th inst.

1. The 6th. Brigade Group made up as hereunder will entrain in accordance with Table "A" attached.

Canadian Division A.Q.S. =/5/4 of 19th. instant and this office 3467, dated 21st. inst., will in addition to locating billets, act as guides for units and will lead their units to their respective billets from detraining point. A location list showing H.Q., of all units will be issued for entrainment.
4. Brigade Hqrs., will be at HONDEGHEM, V.2.b.5.3.
5. Brigade Officer (Major C.E. KING) will supervise the entrainment of this Group. He will report 3½ hours before the first train leaves and will act under direction of the D.A.Q.M.G. He will proceed by last train to rejoin the Bde.
6. Brigade Officer (Major H.G. WOLFE-MERTON) will supervise the detrainment of this Group; and will remain in charge under the direction of D.A.A.G.(b) until the detraining of Brigade Group is completed.
7. Brigade Signal Officer will detail two runners each to report to Entraining and Detraining Officers before midnight of 22nd./23rd. instants for instructions.
8. Entraining and Detraining Officers will report to R.T.O's concerned on arriving to take up their duties.
9. Working parties will be detailed as follows:

(i) At Entraining Point - SAVY.
1 Company, 31st. Cdn. Battalion complete with Field Kitchen and transport.
This party will report to the R.T.O. at 4.30 p.m. on 23rd. instant and remain until last train.
(ii) At Detraining Point - CASSEL.
1 Company, 27th. Battalion complete with Field Kitchen and transport.
This working party will leave by the first train for CASSEL.
Rations, fuel and forage for consumption 25th. instant must be supplied to those parties.
The S.S.O. will arrange for straw for billets.
Sheds will be available for billets at SAVY. The Company Commander will arrange to billet his officers and men.
10. One N.C.O. and two men of the Police attached to Bde. Hqrs., will proceed by first train to Detraining Station without their horses. They will carry 48 hours rations. They will report to the R.T.O. at CASSEL and take over Polive Duties until detraining is completed.
11. The A.D.M.S. is arranging for ambulances at entraining and detraining points.

23. ACKNOWLEDGE.

1. The 14th C.M.G.C. will relieve the 16 guns of the 6th C.M.G.C. in the trenches on the night of the 3/4th October 1917.
2. The Sections of the 14th C.M.G.C. will relieve the corresponding Sections of the 6th C.M.G.C.
3. A guide will meet Nos. 1 & 2 Sections and their limbers at cross roads, S.24.c.50.80. and will guide them to their ration dump at T.13.b.80.80. where the guides for each gun position will meet them.

4. The 14th C.M.G.C. will take over the belted S.A.A. in each position from the 6th C.M.G.C. Each No. 1 will give a signed receipt for same and will keep a copy himself which will be turned into Company H.Q. at T.20.b.15.85. These instructions will also apply as regards all trench stores.
5. Completion of relief will be sent by runner to Company H.Q.
