Norris, Edgar (Ed) James Kerr, Captain

Lieutenant E.J.K. Norris is shown as Transport Officer of No. 2 Company in the April 1918 Nominal Roll of the 2nd Battalion CMG Corps.  In June 1918, he was in "L" Battery of No. 3 Company, but had taken command of "M" Battery by the 26th August and been promoted to Captain, when he was involved in the Battle of Arras, as related by the following extract from the War Diary:
"On the morning of the 26th 'M' Battery (Capt. E.J.K. Norris) 'Kicked Off' at 'Z' hour with the first wave of the 20th Battalion on the Left and got well forward before the enemy barrage fell, thus avoiding casualties from that source. The gun crews followed the infantry closely and suffered a few casualties from our own shells. At daybreak it was discovered that guns were in advance of the Objective and they were then moved to their better positions in N.10.a. and c. Throughout the day the enemy M.G's were active and his shell fire severe."

He was wounded on 15 September 1918: "Hostile gas shelling very heavy during day, and aerial activity very marked.  7 am Capt. E.J.K. NORRIS hit in head (slightly) near Railway embankment whilst visiting his guns. Evacuated to hospital and Lieut. I.G. McLAREN assumed command. 1 O.R. Killed. And 2 O.R. wounded."  He had recovered sufficiently to be included under "M" Battery in the Nominal Roll for October, although he was shown as being on leave.  The War Diary shows that Capt. Norris was on Battery duty with No. 3 Company on 8 October 1918, duriung the Battle of Cambrai: "'M' Battery with the 18th Battalion moved forward along railway through T.21. & T.16. and took up positions in T.11.a and T.10.d. covering the left flank. Captain NORRIS having ascertained that attack on left flank had been held up. THUN ST MARTIN not having been cleared."  He remained with "M" Battery until the end of March 1919.

Private W.E. North was wounded on 28 august 1918, during the Battle of Arras.
