Bernard May Warner was born at Brampton, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire and baptised at St Thomas, Brampton on 30 March 1887, one of six children of a fishmonger Frank Warner and Mary Frances née May.

Trade Directories for 1912 and 1926-27 show Bernard Warner with premises at 33 Burlington Street, Chesterfield.

Notes by CH:  Win was the granddaughter of John and Elizabeth Johnson of Oxcroft Farm in Bolsover.  She lived her entire life in Bolsover, except during periods of employment "in service".
