George Smart Bristow was born in about 1819, and married Lois Eager at Lewes in 1851.   They moved to Derby in late 1857.  They had several children, as follows:
- Lois Amelia, born in 1852 at Peckham, Surrey
- George Smart, born in 1853
at Hinton, east of Bournemouth, Hampshire
- Angelo Ernest, born in 1857 at Lewes
- Arthur George, born in early 1858 at Derby, died on 27 May 1861
- Rodolphus Hubert, born in 1859 at Derby, died in mid-1861
- Josephine Maria born 1862
and bapt. 1 Sep 1867 at Derby St Andrews, died in 1867
- Laurie Lavinia born 1864 and bapt. 15 Sep 1867 at Derby St Andrews
- Angelo Ernest bapt. 16 Aug 1868 at Derby St Andrews

George S. Bristow operated a studio called "Bristow's Portrait Rooms" at 5 Regent Terrace, 57 London Road, Derby, from late 1857 until his death at London Road on 3 November 1870
(Adamson, 1997).  Lois Bristow died in the same year.  Their son took over the business briefly, and was shown as a photographer in the April 1871 census, but he too died a few months later.
