| According
to Craven (1993), J.
Alfred Stevens operated a
studio in Derby from 1925 until 1952,
first at 104 St. Peter's Street (at rear), and later at The Spot, 4
Albert Street. Whipple's 1935 trade directory of Derby lists
Alfred Stevens at "The Spot." He first appears in telephone
directories in 1924, and remained there until 1950, after which
proprietorship appears to have been taken over by K.F. Stevens
(followed in directories until 1959). Some time after this,
as
evidenced by the proof folder shown below, S. Spencer
became proprietor of the firm. |

Kathleen Hazel Baker was born in 1924 at Derby. She married Douglas McCowen (from Wales) on 17 Apr 1946 at Saint Mary's Church, Alvaston, Derby, and they had two children, Christine (b. 1948, Wales) and Andrew (b. 1953, Wales). Her husband died recently. |

My gran Madge,
born on 9 Apr 1920 at Derby, and died on 6 Aug 1987 at her home.
She was fire bridge telephone communication in the 1940's. She married
Albert Stanley Porter on 23 Apr 1945 at Saint Mary's Boulton Lane,
Derby. They had a daughter - my mum - Josephine Porter, born in 1947 at
Belper. |
