Family Notes
by Louise Staley
One of the witnesses,
Richard Staley, married Emma Robinson who appeared on the 1851 Swadlincote
census as the grand-daughter of John Albrighton. Emma’s mother, Elizabeth
may have been a daughter of Elizabeth, John Albrighton’s second wife, from
her first marriage.
John Albrighton was
described in the 1851 Swadlincote census as aged 66 and born in Grendon,
Warwickshire.
It appears John Albrighton
was married at least three times:
- Firstly on 2 April
1809 at Stretton-en-le-Field, Leicestershire to Sarah Collyer. They were
the parents of Richard, chr. 29 April 1810, Sarah chr. 25 April 1813, and
John chr. 2 October 1814.
- Secondly to Elizabeth
(Ford nee Hawkins?), perhaps at St Weyburgh’s Derby on 27 July 1826. They
were the parents of Thomas, born about 1828 and appearing as John Albrighton’s
son in the 1841 census at Swadlincote aged 13. This Elizabeth died between
March and June 1844 and appears in the St Catherine’s House Index of Burton
upon Trent, ref. T. 17 11.
- Thirdly to Elizabeth
Bucknall on 28 October 1852 at Church Gresley, Derbyshire. Elizabeth was
the widow of William Carver. She died in or before 1869 at Swadlincote
when her will was administered.
