[Text of Will]
In the name of God Amen I John Tetley of Repton in the County of Derby yeoman being of a sound and disposeing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following First I bequeath my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hopeing to enjoy eternall happyness and my Body to the grave to be buryed at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as for my worldly Estate Dispose thereof as followeth viz.

I give and Devise unto my Son In Law Thomas Somers of Repton aforesaid Butcher for and dureing his naturall Life All that messuage Cottage or Tenement in which he the said Thomas Somers doth now inhabitt and dwell situate in Repton aforesaid togeather with the Orchard and appurtenances thereunto belonging And from and imediatly after his Decease I give and Devise the same unto his Son John Somers his Heirs for ever. Item I give unto the said Thomas Somers the Sum of Five Shillings and unto his said son John Five Shillings and unto his Two Daughters Elizabeth and Ann Somers Two Shillings and Six pence
Item I give and Devise unto my Son In Law John Williamson of [blank] and Elizabeth his Wife All that Messuage Cottage or Tenement in which Thomas Woowell doth now Inhabit and dwell situate in Repton aforesaid togeather with the Orchard and appurtenances thereunto belonging Tohold to them the said John Williamson and Elizabeth his Wife for and dureing their joynt Lives and the Life of the longer liver of them and from and imediatly after the Decease of the longer liver of them Then I give and devise the same to the Heirs of the Body of the said Elizabeth lawfully begotten or to be begotten and for default of such I give and Devise the same unto my Son John Tetley and his Heirs. Item I give unto the said John Williamson and Elizabeth his wife Twenty pounds of lawfull Brittish money to be paid within Twelve months next after my decease Item I give unto the said John Williamson the Bed Bedstedds Sheets Blankett and furniture thereunto belonging now standing and being in his Chamber over the parlor in the House I now dwell in together with a Leather Trunk now being in the same Chamber and also a Round Table now standing in the parlor Item I give unto the said John Williamson the Three best pewter Dishes and Three of  the best Ewes and Lambs I shall dye possessed of.

Item I give and Bequeath unto my Son Thomas Tetley the Sum of Twenty pounds of lawfull Brittish money and unto his Wife Two Shillings and Six pence I give also to his Son John Five Shillings and unto his two Daughters Dorothy and Sarah each Two Shillings and Six pence.

Item I give unto my Son In law Thomas Gilbert and Mary his Wife and to each of them Two Shillings and Six pence and to their Son Thomas Five Shillings and to their Two Daughters each Two Shillings and Six pence All which Legacys I appoint to be paid within twelve months after my decease After my Debts Legacys and Funerall Charges are paid and Discharged with the payment of which I charge my whole Estate both Real and personall not by me herein before otherwise given devised disposed of then as to the Rest and Residue thereof after my Debts Legacys and funerall Charges are paid and discharged I give Devise and bequeath the Same unto my said Son John Tetley his Heirs and Assigns for Ever And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said Son John Tetley Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking all former wills by me heretofore made In Witnesse whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twenty ninth day of May in the ninth Year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord King George over Great Brittain  Anno Dom 1723

The Declaration of Elizabeth Williamson alias Tetley wife of John Williamson natural and lawful Daughter of John Tetley the Elder late of the parish of Repton in the County of Derby deceased and Administratrix of all the said Deceaseds personal Estate with the last Will and Testament of the said Deceased to the Administration annexed made instead of an Intry of the said Deceaseds personal Estates as follows viz
 
This Declarant upon oath setteth forth and declareth that none of the Goods Cattle Chattles or personal Estate of the aforsaid John Tetley deceased have come to her hands or possession and the said Elizabeth Williamson abs Tetley further declareth that whenever any of the Goods Cattle Chattles or Personal Estate of the said Deceased shall come to her hands or possion She this Declarant will make a full true and perfect Intry thereof and exhibit the same into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Lichfield And the said Declarant also setteth forth that shie is informed and believes that Mary Tetley of Repton Widow is possessed of all or the greatest part of the said Deceaseds Personal Estate but the particulars thereof she does not know

Notes:  Don't know when or where John was born but the will was made in 1723 and in-between that and him dying, the executor, his son John Tetley died in 1729. Probate was applied for by his daughter - Elizabeth Williamson -, but something obviously went wrong! There is also a declaration made by Elizabeth Williamson stating that she has none of the goods and that they are in the hands of Mary Tetley. Don't know who Mary is, there is not a Mary Tetley named in the will, but both John & his son John were married to Marys, could be one of them.  Lorraine Marshall
