Descendants of George BROCK

First Generation

1. George BROCK was born about 1785 in VA 1 2 and died between 1860 and 1870.

Note: There has been some confusion as to the order of George Brock's marriages. From the 1909 letter of Jackson Brock (grandson of George), George was married three times. Records to his marriages to Margaret Hudson and Sarah Groves have been located, which gives a date for each marriage. No record of a third marriage has currently been located, but is considered by other researchers to be accurate and have listed the marriage as being to an Elizabeth Hake. The name Elizabeth Hake appears on the death certificate of Lucretia Brock Bailey, the youngest child of George Brock. This appears to be firm evidence that Elizabeth Hake was George's third marriage, but from other evidence received this is now believed to be an error on the part of the informant for Lucretia's death certificate. The main piece of evidence

At the taking of the 1850 Jackson Co., OH census, where Lucretia made her first appearance at the age of 4, a Sarah Brock, age 46, born KY, is listed in the family. The placement of Sarah's name in the household order of last and being born in KY seems to infer that instead of this being Sarah the wife of George, she could be Sarah the daughter of George. In the 1860 census, this same Sarah is still residing in the home, but this time listed beneath George. No census information has been found regarding the daughter Sarah, which could suggests that she is the Sarah in 1850 and 1860 and as such would support the evidence given in Elizabeth Hake being the 3rd wife of George. However, when all of the evidence is factored in, the opposite is found to be true and Elizabeth Hake is now likely to be the first wife of George.

Other evidence in favor of Elizabeth Hake as 1st wife, Margaret Hudson 2nd wife and Sarah Grover as 3rd wife are:

These are the dates of birth for George's children in conjunction with the dates of his marriages, along with the information contained in Jackson's letter.
Per Jackson's letter containing a partial listing of children from marriages were:
1st wife: Sheridan and Sarah
2nd wife: Wilkinson (b. 1820 OH), Orlando (b. 1823 OH), Pleasant (b. 1813, KY), Mary (b. 1816 KY) and Sylvester (b. 1824 OH)
3rd wife: Sam, John and David (born 1842)
To believe the naming of Elizabeth Hake as the mother of the youngest child Lucretia (not named in Jackson's letter) to be accurate, one would have to believe that all of George and Sarah's children were born prior to their marriage.

The final and last piece of evidence, that we believe is the deciding factor of the placement of Sarah being the third wife of George is the Executor's Notice placed January 8, 1870 in the Albion Pioneer Journal by the executor's of Sarah Brock's estate, David C. Brock and Lucretia A. Bailey. This notice states the following:
