From Adam and Anne Mott, Cornell, 1890
" Joseph Carpenter, eldest son of Joseph and Ann Wickes Carpenter, was but 17
years old at the time of his father's death, in 1683. The business of his father
seems to have descended to him, and after he became of age he called himself
proprietor of one-fifth of the Moscheto Cove patent. Before he was of age he
married Ann Simpkins, in Oysterbay, and was carrying on the Mills, etc."
Joseph Carpenter died about 1690: probably met his death by accident in the
breaking up of the mill dam."
