Aurilla Church

Aurilla Church was born 4 Oct 1809 in Chittenden, VT, but had moved to
Licking Co OH by the time she was 6. (1) She married John Jaggers on
12 Jul 1827 in Licking Co., OH. (2) The ceremony was performed by her father,
Asa Church, who was a Methodist minister.
Her husband, John Jaggers, for
$250. purchased 60 acres of land in Licking Co., OH from her father on April 18,
1829. (3) John Jaggers and "Orilla is wife" sold this same land to his brother
David Jaggers four years later for only $200. "Orilla" was questioned and gave
her permission from Parke County, Indiana on April 11, 1833. (4)
Her
husband, John Jaggers, died in Indiana on 6 Sep 1837 leaving her a widow with
two young children. In the 1840 census Aurilla Jaggers was living in
Vermillion Co. IN next to her father, Asa Church, with a son 10-15
(Harrison was 12) and a daughter 5-10 years old (Eliza was 8). (5) Her
other children all must have died before 1840.
On 7 Dec 1840 Aurilla married
John Gilmore who had been working and studying with her father to become a
doctor. (6) She had six more children with John Gilmore. Her last child
was born in 1855. She died 8 Apr 1863. (7) Her oldest daughter, Rebecca
Jane Gilmore, died three weeks later on 28 Apr 1863.
