Thomas Clark was born before his parents settled in Milford, probably about
1638. For many years he was in the public service. He represented Milford as
Deputy at the sessions of Oct. and Nov. 1683, May, July and Oct. 1684,May and
Sept. 1689, Oct. 1690, May and July 1691, May, June and Oct. 1692, Feb., Mar.,
May, Sept. and Oct. 1693, May and Oct. 1694, May and Oct. 1695, May and Oct.
1696, May and Oct. 1697, May and Oct. 1698, May and Oct. 1701, May and Oct.
1702, May and Oct. 1703, and May and Oct. 1704. - - - From 1691 to 1698 he was
Commissioner for Milford, an office which was similar to Justice, and after the
counties were organized in 1698, he was appointed Justice of the Peace for New
Haven County and apparently held that office until the expiration of his last
term in 1710.
He was called eldest son in the will of his father, "Deacon" George Clark. In
the record of his first marriage, he was described as son of George Clark "Seniour."
On Mar. 18, 1681/2 "George Clarke of Milford Senr" made a deed of gift "in
consideration of my fatherly love & affection unto my son Thomas Clarke of ye
same Towne." Another deed was given, Sept. 4, 1686, by "George Clark of Milford
Senr." for "love & Respect unto my Son Thomas Clarke of Milford."

Samuell, Thomas, George and Joseph Clark Nominated Executors In the Last Will
and Testament of Mr. Thomas Clarke Senr Late of Milford Deceased Exhibited the
said Instrument which was proved in Court, and approved for record, the said
Executors accepted the trust therein committed to them and Gave Bond for A
faithful discharge thereof.
I Thomas Clarke of Milford, Senr being by the providence of God Visited with
Sickness yet thru ye; Goodness of God of Sound Memory and not knowing what the
pleasure of God may be concerning me do make this my Last Will and Testament as
followest. Imprimis I committ my Spirit into ye hands of God who Gave it and my
body to a Decent Buriall at ye discretion of my executors in hopes of a Joyfull
Resurrection.
And as to my worldly Goods and Estate my Will is That my Loving Wife shall have
the Lower Room of my dwelling house at ye South End Thereof and such Improvement
as she shall have Occassion for of the Cellar So Long as she shall remain my
Widdow; and Ten pounds - annum during her Naturall Life to be paid by the
persons hereafter named as my Executors in such proportion as ye Lands which I
shall give them may be worth, and further that she shall have ye Use of the Pump
Oven and such necessarys.
Item My will is That my Eldest son Samuell Clark shall have and hold all the
houseing and Lands and Meadow which I have heretofore Given or set out to him or
is now in his possession, also six acres of Land in the East Bare Neck being the
whole of my Land in that place also twelve acres more or less on ye town plain,
Also thirty acres att Walnutt tree Hill as the fourth ward End allowing only to
his brethren Thomas, George and Joseph Clark one Quarter of an acre where their
Barne Standesth, also seventy acres at the fourth ward End of my Land at White
plain to be to him and his heirs for ever.
Item My Will is That my Son Thomas Clark shall have and hold all the
Lands and meadows which I have already set to him and two acres more on ye west
side of the hill in the Indian side Joyning to that which he hath already had
set out to him to bring it into better form. Also twenty acres at walnut tree
hill being the Third Lott already in his Improvement. Also fourty acres being
the Middle Lott at whites plain. Also four acres at Stubby plain or what shall
remain when my two sons George and Joseph have had Each of them four acres out
of the whole to be to him and is heirs for Ever.
Item I Give unto my son George Clark my dwelling house and homestead,
also thirty acres at wolf harbour at which end he shall Choose, also twenty
acres at walnut tree hill Lying Between Samuells and Thomass Lotts: also fifty
acres on Rulk (?Bulk) hill. In Consideration of his Living Longer with me than
his Brethren, also eight acres at newfeild next to my son Johns, also Eight
acres at Beaver pond Gate, also seven acres in the Indian side on the westward
end of the hill, also all my Meadow on the Southward side of the Creek. In the
upper end of the Cove, and two pieces of meadow on the North side of the Creek
above the Little bridge to have and hold to him and his heirs for Ever.
Item My Will is That my Son Joseph Clark Shall have and hold all the Lands &
meadow the Indian Side already set out to him and In his Improvement, also
Thirty six acres at Walnut tree hill already In his Improvement, also fourty
acres at ye North End of Whites Plain to him and his heirs for ever.
Item my will is that ye male heir of my son John Decd shall have all the Lands
and Meadows wch I caused to be put into the Inventory of his Estate, also ten
acres at wolf harbour or what is Left when my Son George hath his Thirty acres
off from it, also seven acres or ye Residue of my Land at Beaver Pond at the
westward end thereof to him and his heirs for Ever. And further my Will is that
the Meadow which I have not already Set out to my Sons shall be equally Divided
among my Sons Excepting to my Eldest Son a double share as also my Right In the
Sequestered and Undivided Or Common Lands and further it is my Will that three
acres of Land in the old feild and six acres In the Bare Neck and my meadow In
the fresh Mewdow Should be dispossed of among my sons to such of them as by
discreet persons shall be thought Needfull to make an Equality among them.
Item My Will is that my two Daughters Sara Fenn and Hannah Prudden shall have
all my Lands and Meadow at Newhaven to them and their heirs for Ever, and
further my Will is that my said two daughters Shall have all my moveable Estate
not otherwise disposed of by this Will Either In Specie or the value thereof or
so much thereof as will make Something of an Equality between ym; and my sons
further my will is that my daughter Hannah shall have five pounds on the account
of her not having five pounds by the Gift of her Grandfather And further I give
and Bequeath to each of my Grand Daughters by my son John Twenty five pounds -
and I do hereby appoint my Sons Samuell, Thomas, George and Joseph Clarke to be
Joynt Executors to this my Last Will Y Testament And further my Will yt my Son
George Shall have ye; parcel of meadow wch Lyeth Between the Creek and the
Island, and ye Island Likewise, and yt; the Land adjoying to the meadow Lately
fenced In Shall be Divided amongst my Sons who have the Meadow - and further my
Will is That the Legacies of my personal Estate Given In this my Will are
Intended and shall be understood with this Limitation or Condition That in Case
any of the Legatees shall Refuse or neglect to Relinquish their Claim to all the
Reall Estate wch I hold in Right of my first Wife and disposed of by this my
Will among my sons That then the Legacies hereby Given to them shall be and
Remain to my said sons in such proportion as the Vallue of the Lands shall be of
wch they shall by their Claims be Defeated of - And In Confirmation of this my
Last Will I hereunto putt my hand and Seal this 20th day of October 1719. Thomas
