Reverend John Cleveland , was one of the most prominent members of the
family, was a distinguished divine, a public-spirited man, and a powerful writer
and speaker. Attended Yale College, 1741 to 1745-- was expelled before he
graduated because of sympathies for the Separatists movement of which his uncle,
Elisha Paine, was leading. // Was in the French and Indian War, 1756-60; entered
Continental Army 19 May 1775, was Chaplain at Cambridge during Boston siege.
