In his book " Smith of Abram's Plains" Jonathan K T Smith describes Nicholas Cock as a planter and merchant who, although of English extraction, had come to Virginia from Holland after having lived there for several years. He also describes him as having been a merchant and a planter. We have a copy of his will but it is barely legible so we will quote from William Lindsay Hopkins's book" Middlesex County ,Virginia-Wills and Inventories 1673-1812 and other Court Papers" p52." Nicholas Cocke....22 Oct 1687___ ....Son in law ___ Curtis(?). Daughter Jane Jones and her son Rice Jones. Grandson H___ Jones, another son of Jane Jones. Wife Jane Cocke. Exor. Son Maurice Cocke. Wit: Doodles Minor." We also know that he died on October 25, 1687 from records alluded to in " The Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex County, Va. from 1653 to 1812" Published by The National Society Of The Colonial Dames Of America In The State Of Virginia.
