There is very strong evidence that Margaret Cuddy was the daughter of James
Cuddy and Isabella Russell. She was baptized as an adult on 24 Sep 1809. (1) She
married George Gilmore a year later on 16 May 1810, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.
(2) At that time George Gilmore was a weaver on Pittencrieff which was a street
in Dunfermline. (3) Jean Cuddie, a sister to
Margaret, was listed as living at 21 Pittencrieff Street in the 1851 census of
Dunfermline. Helen Gilmore, a sister to George Gilmore, lived on
Pittencrieff St North Side in the 1841 and 1851 census records.
They baptized their first child on 15 Nov 1811. She apparently died two
years later as the obituary on her son, John Gilmore, stated that his mother died when John was an
infant and that he left for American when he was about 3 years old. .

(1) Baptism of Margaret Cuddy
When their son, John Gilmore, was baptized at Queen Anne St. Burgher
Associate, Dunfermline in 1811, the only other person named Cuddy in that same
church was a Jean Cuddy who was baptizing her children.
The death Certificate on Jean Cuddie stated that her parents were James Cuddie
and Isabella Russell. (see page for Jean Cuddie)
The parents of Margaret Cuddy's husband, George Gilmore, were born in
Cairneyhill, Fife, Scotland. The only family named Cuddie living there at
that time was James Cuddie and his wife Isabella Russell.
From looking at the baptismal records for the six children of James Cuddie and Isabella Russell, it seems that the family was in Bathgate, West Lothian through 1788. (Jean Cuddy, born about 1788, is from Bathgate in the 1851 census.) The family does not show up in Cairneyhill, Fife until 1809. When they arrived in Cairneyhill they had their three youngest children baptized at Cairneyhill Associate Congregation, Carnock, Fife . The three baptisms were recorded on the same page. Margaret, an adult, was baptized 24 Sep 1809. The next entry is for two children of James Cuddy and Isabella Russell, Clementina and Janet Cuddy who were baptized 4 Jul 1809. The death record for Janet indicates she was born in 1797 which would mean she was baptized when she was 12.
