Jane Field was born in Virginia about 1818. (1) Her family moved to Tuscaloosa, AL when she was young.  Her mother died there sometime before 1827 as her father remarried to Nancy Starr   on 14 Aug of that year.  Her father then died on 5 Dec 1831, so by the time she was thirteen, Jane Field was an orphan.
On 30 April 1835, Constantine H. Perkins, as admr. of Hume R. Field deceased filed a petition in Orphan's Court praying for sale of real estate of his intestate. Heirs: Nancy Field, relict and widow who resides in New London, Connecticut; Harriet H. Perkins, daughter of H R Field, who resides in Williamson Co., Tenn; Eliza A Perkins, wife of petitioner; Edward R. Field, who resides in Pulaski Co., Tenn.; Jane M Field, infant within age of 21; Henrietta S. Field, infant within age of 21 and residing in New London, Conn. Henry A. Snow, guardian ad litem of Jane and Henrietta S. Field. (2) From this document it appears that the widow Nancy Starr Field and the two minors, Jane Field and Henrietta Field had moved to Connecticut after the death of Hume R. Field.
Two years later, Jane Field married Joshua W. Young in Tuscaloosa, AL on 19 Jan 1837. (3)  She would have been about 19. They had 7 children.  Their first three children were born in Alabama, but Kitty was born in Mississippi about 1845. (4) The last three children were born in Seguin, TX.
Jane died in Seguin, Guadalupe, TX on 12 Mar 1855.  (5) Her youngest son, Joshua, who went by the name of Hal, was only three years old.
