David Gilmore was born 22 January 1716 in Crossford, Fife, Scotland. (1)  He married Ann Hutton around 1744.  When his first child, Janet, was baptized in 1745, he was listed as a Mason in Crossford.  The family must have moved to Carnehill around 1749 as David and Ann obtained some land in Pitdinnie dated 18 April 1749.(2)  Their daughter Ann was born there in 1752 when David was listed as "mason and feuar in Cairnehill."  A fuear was someone who held a feu of land and paid the feu duty to the original owner.  Pitdinnie was an area on the eastern edge of Carnehill and they seem to have lived there until 1761 when his lease time was "tacked" onto the time of William Lawson.
David and his sons were members of the Cairneyhill Associate Congregation in, Carnock. In 1791 they are recorded as "subscriber members of the Apostate Congregation of Cairneyhill who were absent on the day of Moderation" - voting for Tho's Blair to be their minister.  John Gilmour, David Gilmour Sen, David Gilmour Jun.. David Gilmore died 22 Nov 1792 in Cairneyhill at the age of 76. (4)
