Hannah married (1) John Ufford, son of Thomas Ufford and Isabel, circa 1654 in Milford, New Haven County, CT. John and Hannah "agreed to disagree, and she succeeded in divorcing him on the ground that he was unqualified for the marital relation. The New Haven Colony Court, which had granted the divorce, felt badly used and made an inquiry when John sought to marry Martha Nettleton, (orphan daughter of Samuel of Branford and Fairfield), then an apprentice in the elder Ufford's household. The marriage was permitted, and apparently took place about June 1657."
After the divorce, Hannah
married Capt. John Beard and made her home at Milford,
Connecticut, where John was of some prominence. Here they were fairly prolific,
bearing ten children, the first seven all being baptized on the same day, the
15th of May 1670. It was a common practice among the puritans to baptize a child
the first Sunday after its birth, that not being the case here.
