7. Thomas Herron b. 19 Mar 1781
Francis Herron died in Mecklenburg, NC in 1780 at the age of 38. His widow, Mary, appears to have been pregnant giving birth to her son, Thomas, five months later. Her oldest child, Rachel, would have been about 10. According to researcher Joy Herron, "One of the researchers pointed out that very little record was found of the estate of Francis Herron, probably due to Cornwallis' presence in the area and the resulting unsettled conditions. Apparently Cornwallis departed in January 1781 and while the court attempted to catch up on business, things did not return to normal right away. However, at the January Term Letters of Administration were granted to John Herron, Mary Herron and Andrew Sprott on the Estate of Francis Herron, deceased. There is no existing estate file for Francis although in the estate file of John Herron there is a signed, blank bond which served as the administration bond for Francis' estate. It is assumed that, due to the confusion of war, the administrators handled the estate privately rather than through the courts.
"Francis Herron's widow and some if not all of his children left Mecklenburg Co. and migrated to Madison Co., KY, settling on Paint Lick Creek in the area of the county that later became Garrard County in 1797. Mary Herron first appears on the tax lists there in 1789. She purchased land on Paint Lick Creek in Garrard Co., KY in 1798."
