"The name of William Hyde, first appears at hartford, Conn., in 1636. And his
name is on the monument in the old cememtery at that place as one of the
original settles; and he had lands assigned to him there.----He probably came
over in 1633, with the Rev. Thomas Hooker, the first minister of Hartford;
sojourned at short time at Newton, Mass., and removed with him to Hartford in
1636.
William Hyde was a man of considerable importance among the settlers of Norwich,
and was frequently elected as one of the townsmen, or selectmen."
