"Hosea Joyce (John 1), born about 1642, probably in Sandwich, died, testate,
at Yarmouth between 24 Jan. and 15 Feb. 1711/2. . . . Hosea Joyce, as we have
seen, was the only son and sole executor under his father's will in 1667. He
served as constable at Yarmouth in 1672 (Plym. Col. Recs. 5:91). It is said that
he was a man of influence and means in Yarmouth and it would seem likely that
this is true. He is, however, not given the title of "Mr." and his will
describes him as a yeoman. . . .it is truly remarkable that while Hosea Joyce
was survived by four sons, all of whom lived to maturity, two died without
issue, one produced two daughters, and the fourth had five daughters but only
one son, who died without issue. This is the more remarkable inasmuch as we have
found record of a total of 58 grandchildren, of whom fifty were born to his six
daughters." -- John Joyce of Yarmouth, Mass. (ca. 1615-1666)," The American
Genealogist, 43 (1), (January, 1967).
