Catherine Margits was baptized   4 Feb 1625/26 at the New Church in Amsterdam, daughter of Joseph and Anna Margits. (1) Her mother,  Anna van Waerdenburch, died when she was ten years old and her father remarried.  Catherine married Adrian Hegeman at Sloten, near Amsterdam, on 7 Mar 1649. (2)  She was twenty-four years old but the marriage register recorded her age as twenty-one. Catherine and Adrian Hegeman had two children in Amsterdam and then moved to the American Colonies.  Altogether they had eight children within a fourteen - sixteen year span.  Her brother, Joseph Margits, died in East India about 1633 and she inherited some money from his estate. (3)
Her husband died 4 Apr 1672 when her youngest child was about nine years old. She lived another eighteen years. When her grandson Adriaen Hegeman, son of Joseph Hegeman, was baptized on 31 Oct 1680  she and her oldest son, Hendrikus were the witnesses. (4) On 10 May 1685 she was one of the witnesses at the baptism of her granddaughter Johanna, daughter of Elizabeth and her husband Tobian van Eyck. (5)  In April 1688, Catharina moved from Flatbush to New York and joined the Reformed Dutch church there. She died in 1690 and her son Joseph paid 20g. for a grave for his mother. (6) On 16 Apr 1690 her children requested an appraisal of her lands. (7)
