According to Lola ? who was probably a daughter of
Kate Clark Work (great- great granddaughter of Mary Ann McAllister through
Andrew Herron Jr, Lydia Warren Herron, Kate Clark Work, Lola) Mary Ann
McAllister "had been in an accident involving a run-away horse and had to have
one leg amputated. She would never again get into a carriage. Whenever she went
out the slaves carried her in a kind of sedan chair. In her old age, she was
apparently quite a character."
Lola also writes that Mary Ann "spoke with a strong Irish brogue and may
actually have been born in Ireland., They were among the Scotch that migrated to
Northern Ireland and then came on this country several generations later."
