Macy, Harry, Jr., "New Light on the Origin of the Monfort Family," New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, Vol. 29, No. 2 (April 1998), pp. 95-96:

JEAN MONFORT . . . , baptized at Valenciennes 11 October 1583, married probably in 1612-13 Jacqueline Moreau. There are numerous Moreau entries in the Valenciennes church records index, but the only baptism of a Jacqueline is for a daughter of Philippe, 31 December 1578, which would make her five years older than her husband and 35 at the birth of her first baptized child. If she was born in Valenciennes it is more likely that her baptism occurred during the 1588-91 gap in the register.

As noted below, Jean and Jacqueline had children baptized in Valenciennes in 1613 and 1616. On 28 November 1617, Jehan Monfort was received as a member of the Walloon Reformed Church of Amsterdam. Two years later they had a child baptized in that church.

The family left Amsterdam 25 January 1624 aboard the Eendracht for New Netherland, and "Johan Monfoort" was still in the colony in 1630. Henry Stoutenburgh related a family tradition that Pieter/Pierre came to New Netherland on the Beaver about 1625, returned to the old country about 1630 to marry, and came back to the colony in about three years on the Love. The ships' names may be fanciful and the dates slightly off, but the Monforts did go back to the Netherlands for at least three years. On 13 January 1636 "Piere Monffort" was received into the Walloon Reformed Church of Amsterdam on confession of faith. On 1 March 1636 "Pierre Montfoor from Valenciennes age 20, attended by his father Jean Monfoor, laceworker (passementwerker), living on the Engelspadt," appeared before the civil authorities to record his marriage intention with Sara de Planck, and they were married in the Walloon Church 23 March. On 16 March 1639.  The church gave attestations to "Jean Monfort et Jaquemine Moreau, Pierre Monfort et Sara de Planq, pour Virginia," and they were in New Netherland by 17 September. Jean/Jan and Jacqueline/Jaquemine both appear to have died within a few years of their return to the colony.
