Anthony Perry came to this country in 1640 and was one of the early settlers
of Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He was one of the contributors to the support of the
King Phillip's War. He was a representative to the General Court in Boston. He
died on March 12, 1683 and left a will and considerable estate. He has six
children.
The Rehoboth vital records show his son, Samuel, born there on December 10,
1648. He became a Freeman in 1658. When he went to Rehoboth is not clear. It was
founded 1643, so he apparently came there between 1643 and 1648.
My mother had always said she was related in some way to the Admiral Perry's,
Oliver Hazard, and Matthew Culbraith. I have not been able to confirm this
except through different unsubstantiated family files. These files also show
Anthony as a brother to an Ezra Perry and a son of Edmund Perry. Several Perry
books have been searched, but none have yielded this connection. However, I have
kept here the connection hoping for better information.
The reference cited on Rehoboth History by Tilton, page 374, has the following
note: "On the 4th day of March 1629, the Colony of Massachusetts Bay was given a
charter, and twenty-six men were named as grantees. The fourteenth was Richard
Perry, and the Twenty-first was John Brown. The descendants of these two men
were among the original planters of the town of Rehoboth, and they intermarried.
From these two lines came many descendants."
