Annetje Remsen was the oldest of at least sixteen children born to Rem Remsen
and Jannetje Jorise Rapalje so you can imagine she was instrumental in the
raising of her younger siblings. She was baptized: 12 Mar 1645 at the
Dutch Reform Church in New Amsterdam. (1) She married Jan Gerritse Dorland about
1669 when she was about twenty-four. She and Jan Dorland had about ten children.
Her mother was still having children after her marriage. One of her
younger brothers, Isaac, was baptized on 16 Sep 1673, in New Amsterdam. (New
York City) The only baptismal record found for the children of Annetje and Jan
Doralnd is for Geertje was who baptized a year later on 19 Aug 1674 in
Brooklyn. Her father "Rem Janssen from Breuklen" and sister Hilte Remsen were
witnesses. (2)
Annetje and her husband Jan Dorland were listed as members of the at Reformed
Protestant Dutch Church at Flatbush, Kings Co., Long Island, New York in 1677
and 1679. (3) Annetje Remsen was also a witness at several baptisms. She
was a witness for children baptized to her siblings: Femmetje, Jan and Jacob.
(4) (5) She and her husband Jan Dorland were both witnesses for a child baptized
to their daughter Styntje. In 1706 Anneje Remsen and her brother Rem were
witnesses for a grandson born to their deceased brother Jan Remsen. (5) She was
also witnesses for baptisms of children born to friends. In 1678 Annetje Remsen
served as a witness for Elsie Dorlant, a sister to the future husband of her
daughter Marytje Dorland, who was at that time only about three years old. (5)
Annetje's father, Rem Remsen, died in 1681. In 1683 her husband was named in a
land transactions involving the land of her father. (6)
