There may to be another Gideon Schaw who was a bookseller.  That Gideon Schaw was a son to John Schaw, minister of Selkirk.  He was apprenticed to David Trinch, bookseller on 05 Sep, 1660.  Gideon Shaw, bookseller, married Mary Mershall on 01 Feb 1683 in Edinburgh and may have had a son named, William.  "He served on the jury at Major Weir's trial in April 1670, and was one of the six booksellers who appealed successfully against A. Anderson's monopoly in 1671."
