"10 December 1755 Wm Shaw The Testament Dative & Inury of the debts & sums of money addebted & resting owing to Umgll' (Umquhile = Former) Wm Shaw merch' in Edin' The time of his decease who deceased in Edin' upon the twenty seventh day of September ? fifty years. Haith fully made & given Gideon Shaw Register of Tobaco's for Scotland and eldest son of the said umgll' Wm Shaw, only Executor dative qua nearest in kin Deceined to him and that by Decreet of the Roman issaries of Edin' as the samen of date the third day of September ? fifty five years, in itself at more length proports.
In the first the said Umgll' Wm Shaw had pertaining & belonging to him the time forsaid of his decease the debts & sums of money underwritten VIZ the sum of one thousand & fifty pounds Scots as the arent of the prin' sum of one thousand one hundred & sixty six pounds thirteen shillings & four pence Scots Contained in a bond dated the twenty fifth day of August ? & thirty two years granted by Uthred McDowal --- to the said defunet to the twenty seventh day of September ? & fifty years being the time aforsaid of the said defunet his decease. Item the sum of one thoris' two hund' & twenty four pounds Scots money as the amount of the prin' sum of sixty pounds Sterling with the arents due thereupon contained in a bond dated the tenth day of ? & forty one years granted by the said Uthred McDowal to the said defunet bearing arents penalty all Scots money Extending In Haill to the sum of two thousand two hundred & seventy four pound Scots money Summa of the debt resting to the def.
Master James Leslie & make Constitute ordain & conf8irm the said Gideon Shaw only Executor Dative qua nearest in kin to the said Umgll' Wm Shaw and in & to the debts & sums of money above written with full power to him to Intromitt. Cautioner Alex Shaw Jun writer in Edin' Dated the ninteenth December ? & fifty five years."
