Captain Matthew Sherwood was born in 1643/44 and deceased 26 October 1715 in
Stratfield, Connecticut, buried in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He married (2nd
marriage) Mary FITCH approximately 1671 in Stratford, Fairfield County,
Connecticut. According to Donald Lines Jacobus and church records,
Matthew Sherwood was "Capt., Fairfield County Troop raised for war service, Apr.
1690". This war service may have been connected with the King William's War
which was occurring at this time. Matthew was also an Ensign in the Fairfield
Trainband, Oct. 1685.
