The mother of Mary Smith, Ann Amiss Smith, left a will in 1753 leaving money to her three grandchildren, "Mary Young, Fanny Young and John Young."  Therefore we know that one of her daughters married John Young.  It could be either Mary or Jean, but most researchers, including the authors of Our Webb Kin of Dixie, by Camilla Webb Davis, have concluded that the mother of John Young was Mary Smith.
