Sarah Baker

Sarah Baker was born in Barnstable on 1 Nov 1713 with her parents named as Nathaniel and Mercy Baker. (1) She married Jonathan Sturgis on 26 Oct 1732 shortly before her 19th birthday. (2) They had two children together, the youngest, Samuel Sturgis being born in 1736. Her husband Jonathan Sturgis must have died sometime between then and 1750 for Sarah's father, Nathaniel Baker, wrote his will 30 Apr 1750 leaving his daughter Sarah Sturgis sheets, rug, a cow, etc. and the right to cart away 8 cord of wood "so long as she remains a widow." (3) She remarried the next year to Jabez Linnell who was a widower with six children. The marriage intention of 9 May 1751 named Sarah as a widow and the marriage record named her Mrs. Sarah Sturges. (4) She had two more children with Jabez LInnell and then he died in May 1755 shortly after the birth of her daughter Elizabeth Linnell. Guardians were appointed for all the children of Jabez Linnel with three of his his brothers and the brother of his first wife taking on the responsibilities of his children from his first marriage. The "widow Sarah Linnell" was appointed guardian for her own two daughters, Susannah and Elizabeth Linnell. (5) Sarah died 31 Jan 1768. (6)

Marriage Intention of marriage to Widow Sarah Sturges
There has been confusion about the wives of Jabez Linnell. His first
wife Sarah Bacon was born 24 Feb 1713 and his second wife, Sarah Baker was born
2 Nov 1713. So, they were the same age and had the same first named.
However, Jabez Linnell very clearly married the widow Sarah Sturges in 1751.
