Leonard White was old enough to be a chain carrier in a land survey in 1752.  (1) And he was named as one of the executors in the will of his father written on 4 Sep 1755. (2)  It is therefore estimated that Leonard White was born about 1734.  His parents were John White and Sarah Leonard.
Leonard White was a sergeant in 1757-58 under his father's command in the French and Indian Wars in MD.  His brother, Peter,  was ensign. (3) He probably married Mary McCoy around 1761.  (4)  We know her name was Mary McCoy from the recollections of Margaret White Geary. (5) He is recorded in several land transactions in Frederick Co., MD with his wife Mary. (6) They had at least four children born in Frederick Co. MD.  Their son John was born about 1764 and the oral history relates that as a child he was kidnapped by the Indians. (7)
Then on 30 May 1774 Leonard White and his wife Mary sold their land in Frederick Co., MD for £65. (8) They probably moved right after that to the Redstone Fort in Uniontown, Fayette County, PA.  As stated Leonard had been a sergeant under his father's command in the French and Indian Wars.  In 1775 Leonard and Charles Brownfield are listed right next to each other when accounts were settled for the militia in Dunmore's War. (9) On 19 Aug 1776 a Leonard White was signed up in Prince George's County MD in the Continental Army. (10) This may or may not have been this Leonard White.  According to the pension application of his 14 year old son, Abraham White, Abraham volunteered under Capt. Springer at Prickett's Fort as the captain's currier in January 1777 and served for two months. (11)  Leonard had served as a sergeant under his father in the French and Indian War, served in Dunmore's War in 1775 and his 14 year old son volunteered in Jan 1777. Leonard White undoubtedly volunteered in the American Revolution.  However, there are no records of Leonard White after 1775. He probably died in the Revolution around 1777. Leonard  White was about 42 years old.
Many years later in 1816 his grandchildren, heirs of Leonard's son John White, were trying to obtain legal possession of their land.  The documentation refers to a survey made by Edward Brownfield in 1769 who "sold the same to Leonard White, father of John White." (12) (13) This proves that Leonard White was the father of John White.  The resurvey of this land in 1801 indicates a transfer of the land of Abraham White to John White, indicating Abraham and John White were brothers.
