Samuel Willis was the youngest son of William Willis, a wealthy Quaker of Jericho, Long Island. He was about 12 when his father became the joint ward for Mary Fry and she came to live with his family. They married when he was 25 and Mary was 16.
Their three oldest children married children of Adam Mott and Phebe Willets
In 1760 he wrote up a genealogy of the Willis family, part of which can be seen on the page of his grandfather, Henry Willis.
