The genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland families
Edward Winn "evidently immigrated to Charlestown,Mass. in about 1635 with his
wife and children. (Edward would have been about 35.) It is conjectured that he
was a master builder or carpenter, and that Moses Cleveland was his apprentice
and accompanied the family to Massachusetts. Moses married Edward's daughter
Ann. Edward was one of the original planners of the town of Woburn on February
8, 1640. The first born child entered in the town's records was Increase, son of
Edward Winn. He was made freeman on May 10, 1643. He was one of the leaders in
town affairs for many years and a Selectman in 1669. Local records frequently
mention his name as well as his many descendants, and there is a Winn street in
Woburn."
