Edward Mason1

M, b. before 1615, d. before 4 September 1640
  • Edward Mason was probably born before 1615.
  • He died before 4 September 1640 at Wethersfield, Connecticut; the date the inventory of his estate was exhibited.2
  • Edward Mason was a mechanic and an early settler of Wethersfield, Connecticut. The date of his death is not known, and there is no mention in the probate records of his widow or any children. After his decease, there was recorded to him in the First Book of Land Records of Wethersfield, p.230, ten pieces of land, with the boundaries. Some of these lands were identified later as belonging to "the Widow Mason," and these are the only records indicating that he left a widow. Her identity is otherwise not known, and they may have married before coming to America.2
  • Mary, wife of Thomas Tracy, was not the widow of Edward Mason. While there was a "Widow Mason" recorded in The First Book of Land Records of Weathersfield, Connecticut, this woman died in Weathersfield between 22 Mar 1650 and 20 Feb 1659. The Widow Mason did not leave a probate record, and at no point in any of the early records is her given name mentioned.2
