  • Jabez Spicer died between 1745 and 1751; either at Brooklyn or Middle Haddam, Connecticut.5
  • On 4 Jun 1717, the town of Norwich granted Jabez Spicer a license to "set up and use the art and mystery of tanning leather." On 3 June 1718 he purchased one hundred acres of land in Pomfret, Connecticut from John Adams of Pomfret. The homestead was situated between Pomfret and Canterbury, Connecticut. The part of Pomfret where he lived is now the town of Brooklyn, Connecticut. Jabez is found in numerous deeds, the last one dated 31 Jan 1744/45 when he sold 32 acres lying partly in Mortlake and partly in Pomfret to Joseph Holland.6

  • He was one of the signers of the Association of Amenia Precinct in June and July 1775. In March 1777 he enlisted from Dutchess County for service in the War of the Revolution, serving until June 30, 1783. He enlisted first in the 8th Regt., New York Troops, Col. Livingstone, Capt. Jonathan Titus Company. Also in the 2nd Regt., Col. Phillip Van Coutland with the same Capt. and later the 4th Regt. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1783 at Huntington, Long Island, having served as a private for six years and five months. He was with General Sullivan in Central New York in the Indian Battles in 1779. Saw the surrender of Burgoyne in 1781 at Lake Saratoga, New York, and of Cornwallis in Virginia in 1783. As payment for his services in the war he drew by ballot five hundred acres of land. Lot No. 56 in the Town of Ovid, Seneca Co., New York, which he sold June 15, 1795, then being a resident of Watervliet, Albany County, New York.1
  • He appeared on the census in 1790 at Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont.1
  • He appeared on the census in 1810 at Shandaken, Ulster Co., New York.1
  • On 17 May 1818 Jacob Spicer resided at Shandaken, Ulster Co., New York; when he applied for a pension for his service during the Revolutionary War.1

  • On 11 Nov 1702, Peter Spicer, of Norwich, Connecticut, bought land of Josiah Rockwell described as three acres of land lying on the east side of "Showtuckit River on the road that leadeth from Norwich to Stonington within the bounds of Norwich abutting Easterly on the highway otherwise abutting wholly upon the rocks."2
  • On 8 April 1757 Peter Spicer deeded land to his son Daniel.3

  • William Spicer married Hannah Roath, daughter of Robert Roath and Sarah Saxton, at Groton, New London Co., Connecticut, on 25 November 1703.2
  • He was an inhabitant of Groton, Connecticut in 1712 when he had 40 acres laid out to him. He is found in a number of deeds at Groton and Norwich either as a principal or as a witness from 25 Dec 1719 until 24 Jan 1735/36, when he and his wife, called Ann Spicer, sold land, orcharding and appurtenances with house theron to Ebenezer Punderson. He signed the deed with his mark. On 30 Aug 1742, a William Spicer (probably his son) signed the will of Robert Geer. No record of his death or estate has been found.3
