  • On 10 October 1668 Town Meeting at Oyster Bay, L.I.: Ordered this day that John Thomson shall have for his homelot five acres of land, laid out by surveyors. On 1 Dec 1668 John Thomson was granted five acres for a home lot, four acres of meadow and some swamp land, also, "a piece of land from his grinding stone, upon a Strigh line to a Stumpt near ye layning tree."4
  • On 17 December 1668 Articles of agreement made between the Town of Oyster Bay on Long Island in ye North Riding of New Yorks Sheere, and John Tompson, Smith, late inhabitant of Stamford in New England in ye Colloney of Conneghicott, whome ye towne of Oyster Bay has taken in, and is expected of to be our Smith.4

  • On 28 August 1671 At a Town Meeting, the Town of Osyter Bay orders the constable on behalf of the town to give notice to John Tompson to resign the land formerly given to him by the town for breach of covenant being then entertained as Town Smith or to answer to the Town's complaint at the next session held at Jamaica.
    On 9 May 1672, at Town Court, before Capt. Dellavoll, Justice of the Peace, "Whare as John Tompson inhabetant of this place, hath been defective in Seaverall perticelers..."
    On 3 Feb 1672/73, the Town made void all grants to John Tompson, "hee together with his famely haveing deserted ye Towne."4
  • On 11 November 1673 John Thompson of Brookhaven alias "Seatawcot," appoints "my Trusty and well beloved friends John Thompson now of Middleborough (Newtown, L.I.) and John Thomas of Brookhaven, as attorneys, the instrument witnessed by Nathaniel Brewster and Henry Rogers. The attorneys arranged with the Town on 13 Dec 1673 to give John Thompson liberty to sell his house and lands at Oyster Bay to any person who the town approves of, but that he is not to come and live there himself. The land and houseing was sold to Joseph Ludlam of Oyster Bay.5
  • John Thompson appears in the Brookhaven Town Records beginning on 15 Jul 1672 when he is given the smiths accomodations. He is found in various transactions there in 1673, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78 and 79. On 3 Apr 1678 the Town of Brookhaven voted to sue John Thompson fo non-performance of his agreement with the town, but the dispute was settled on 31 May 1678.6
  • On 9 December 1680 John Tomson of Brookhaven "and Mara his wife" granted "unto our well beloved and eldest sonn william Thomson our whoeme lott..." The conveyance also states that if said son William Tomson should die without heirs, either male or female, the property should return to the next heir of the Thomsons, and only if William is married should the property be set aside for the use of his widow during her life.7
  • On 16 June 1691 John Thomspon of Brookhaven, Blacksmith, conveyed to son Samuel Thompson, a fifty acre lot in Mount Misery, No. 4, that was formerly Thomas Smith's, also use of the shop, and if he died without a male heir the land is to be returned unto the next heir of John Thompson's children.7
