  • He was buried at Avery Cemetery, Preston, New London Co., Connecticut.11
  • Ebenezer built a grist mill in Preston in 1695. His grandson Asa Witter wrote of him, "He was a strict observer of the Sabbath and in the faithful performence of all the duties God requires of us as parents and children on His holy day. My mother Elizabeth Brown Witter, began with her children before they could read. We had to say the catechism after her on Sabbath evenings, and if we were sleepy sitting, we had to stand up. This was the case until we left the home mansion. Grandfather was always so very punctual in family worship that, when confined to his bed with a broken limb and on his back, he lead the family prayers morning and evening."4
  • Ebenezer Witter and his wife Dorothy Morgan were admitted to the Stonington church 21 Mar 1696, their sons Josiah and Joseph were baptized there. He was an original member of the First Congregational Church at Preston, and was Deacon there between 1707 and 1711. He purchased eight acres on the south side of Wesquedas hill, bounding on the Poquetannock brook, where he erected a grist mill still owned by his descendants 200 years later. Over time he increased his land holdings to several hundred acres.12
  • The Bi-Centenial report of the First Congregational Church of Preston states that Ebenezer Witter, first married Sarah Tefft, and records a daughter Sarah, b.1692 for them.
