About 1000 feet west of the West Lake Road - on the north side of a former east-west road which connected West Lake Road and Middle Cheshire Road and which has now been abandoned - is a cemetary no longer in use. Burials were made from 1831 to 1883, including names such as Beemen, Wolverton, Dempsey, Gates and Burch. The first mention of a burying ground at this site is contained in a deed in 1822 by Parshall to Parshall recorded in Liber 40 of Deeds at page 270. The Grantor had obtained his title from the State of Connecticut in 1812 by deed recorded in Liber 18 of Deeds at page 14. This particular cemetary was a portion of a 6-acre parcel, which parcel abutted on the north side of "the highway running westerly from Red Dock Point," and the burying ground not being defined in size except as located in a deed by Gates to Chamberlain, recorded March 1, 1886, in Liber 181 of Deeds at page 208: "Excepting and reserving therefrom the burying ground on said farm as now owned." Since the former highway was abandoned, there does not appear of record any right of way for access to this burying ground from any public highway, excepting those private lands. "That old road was north of a gully that is still very evident from Wyffles Rd. Mr. Wyffles (10/20/1993) hiked up there and took some pictures. The cemetery is very overgrown and some stones are in disrepair. Page notes transcription was done in 1970..
