  • He appeared on the census in 1850 at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., New York, Calvin, age 57, b. New York; wife Rachel, age 45, b. New York; children, all born in New York, Calvin (17), Lovinia (15), Emily (13), Mary (11). The family is recorded on the same census page as Calvin's brother John.3
  • He appeared on the census on 2 July 1860 at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., New York, age 66, a farmer, real estate valued at $600, personal estate at $540; wife Rachel, age 59; and Joseph R. Coughlin, age 8 (all born in New York).4
  • Crane Gen. p.101 states that Calvin resided in Adrian (Lenawee Co.) Michigan, but does not give dates. This is possibly in error. There is a Calvin Crane in Adrian, Michigan recorded on the 1870 census, however, that Calvin is aged 63 (b. ca. 1807) born in New York, parents born in Massachusetts, a widower, and living with him are Lillie Botsford and Louisa Botsford, both called nieces. Our Calvin was not found in a search of the 1870 census in Ontario Co., New York though, and additional research is required.5
