  • Also known as Maj.-Gen. Daniel Denison.8,9
  • Daniel Denison came to Boston on 2 Nov 1631 aboard the Lion. He had graduated from Cambridge University and went to college with John Harvard, founder of Harvard College. Lived in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Daniel was Major General of the Militia, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and for 29 years one of the "Assistants."
The following is from the New England Historical and Genealogical Register of April 1892, and is written by Daniel Denison himself: "I was the eldest of the three brothers that was brought to New England, and the next year after our arrival in the year 1632, on the 18th day of October, on which day twenty years before I was baptized at Stratford, and seven years before I was admitted into the University of Cambridge, I married Patience, the second daughter of Thomas Dudley, who was a principal undertaker of the Plantation of Massachusetts, and one of those first comers in the year 1630 that brought over the patent and settled the government. He cam over Deputy Governor, and was afterwards at divers times Governor. Thomas Dudley then lived at Cambridge, but afterwards removed to Ipswich, where he stayed one year, settling himself at Roxbury, where he died 30 Jul 1653, and his wife died 10 years before, the latter end of December 1643. For myself, after I was married to Patience Dudley, I lived about 2 years at Cambridge, and in the year 1635 I removed to Ipswich, where we lived together without children till Jan 16, 1640, when my son John was born, and two years and quarter after, Elizabeth was born, April 10, 1642; about nine years after another daughter, Mary, was born, and three years after Deborah, our last was born."

After the decease of my wife, my grandchild John Denison to have my farm at Chebacco, where he was born, with all implements of husbandry, also four and a half acres of marsh at Plum Island, lying against Grape Island, laid out at the right of the farm house. Grandchild Daniel Denison to have my farm at Merrimack of 600 acres, lying near Haueril (Haverhill) bounds, which lands were promised to their Dear Father upon his marriage. If either of said grandchildren dye before they come of age, the survivor shall have two parts of what is bequeathed the other & their sister Martha Denison, the other third part. If both dye then, Martha to have said farms and land, except the four and a half acres of marsh, which will go to my grandchild Elizabeth Rogers.
