It is believed that the first Brownson to settle in England came form Scotland with Mary Queen of Scots

 

 George BROWNSON
Born circa 1742 - 1826

George married Sarah Bakewell in 1764
Sarah died in 1784

Their known children were Sarah, John Randall & William

George then married Ann Redfern on 31 January 1786

George & Ann had eight children:
Betty, George, Ann, Joseph, Benjamin, Mary Ann,
Ellen, who married Jonathon Gibbon Hague
&

Thomas
  born in 1793, married Kitty Hague & became a baker
Thomas & Kitty also had eight children, Mary Jane, James Hague, Elizabeth, William, Jane,  Thomas 
&
George born 9 Sep 1826 and died April 1894. He set up a tailoring business in Glossop, Derbyshire.

"George moved to Hyde in 1854 & founded George Brownson Ltd of Hyde Glossop, Manchester, manufacturing clothiers, home & export trade. Active in religious temperance & education. Supporter of Union St Congregation Church. First JP for Hyde & a Town Councillor. Died 1894 leaving 3 sons & 3 daughters."

& had four children:

Alfred R Brownson
Dorothy M Brownson

The above George born in 1855 went to the USA in 1928 & assisted the Brownson families there trace their lineage.  His keen interest in the family history was sparked from letters written by his father,
