Isabella McBain & Alexander McLeod

Isabella was the sixth child of Angus and Catherine (McKay) McBain born on January 6, 1876 in Croftcrunie, Killearnan.   Isabella became a domestic servant at Crofthouse prior to her marriage to  Alexander McLeod, son of John McLeod and Ann (Williamson), on December 13, 1901 at the Station Hotel, Muir-of-Ord.  Marriage witnesses were Catherine Matheson and Andrew McLeod.  Alexander was born August 8, 1878 in the parish of Rosskeen.   He was a ploughman and Farm Grieve at Easter Suddie, Knockbain About 1936, Alexander, his brothers Donald and John, were cutting trees at Kerrow in Kiltarlity, when one of the trees fell on Alexander, and shortly after he succumbed to his injuries.  Isabella died January 29, 1944 of bronchopneumonia in Ryefield, Killearnan.  Her death was registered by her son, Donald G. McLeod.

 

Isabella and Alexander had four children, Annie, Angusina (Synie), Donald George, and John Alexander.  Annie and Donald migrated to Canada shortly after the second World War.  Donald did not marry.  Annie married Cor Lauryssen.    Annie passed away in 1976, and Donald in 1986.  Both are buried in Burnaby, British Columbia.  John married Joan MacDonald in Ross & Cromarty circa 1904

Angusina (Synie) was born in Easter Suddie.  She became a nurse and married Roderick MacDonald August 4, 1949 at East Church, Inverness. She was given away by John JF McBain.  They did not have children.  Their marriage witnesses were Ann MacNab of Wellbank, Beauly and J.L. Fraser of Beauly.  Roderick was a painter and decorator.  Synie died April 25, 1988 at Kirklea, High Street, Fortrose.
