Margaret MacLeod and Robert MacLeod

Children of John MacLeod & Ann Williamson

Margaret (Meg) b.1904 and Robert (Robbie) b.1898 were the youngest children of John and Ann (Williamson) MacLeod.

In the early years Meg worked in domestic service alongside niece Annie (Nan Dalgetty) and Christina (Chrissie) Ross from Avoch who subsequently married Robbie.  Following several years service in India with the Cameron Highlanders, Robbie, along with Meg , ran the post office which was located at the family home, Hill Cottage, Duncanston.

In 1936 Meg married Donald (Donnie) Forbes b.1902 at Killearnan.  Shortly before the big day Donnie was injured in a motor accident and to cut a long story short, they were married in the Royal Northern Infirmary chapel in Inverness.

Donnie was a motor driver who drove initially with well known Ross-shire contractor Duncan Logan before moving to Tain to work with the County Roads Dept.  During the war years he was in the ambulance service based at Strathpeffer.  Following the war the family moved to Tain where Donnie worked at Glenmorangie distillery for many years and Meg worked with the Stone family.

Robbie and Chrissie married in 1940 at the Methodist Manse in Inverness.  Daughter Margaret was born in 1941 and they continued to live at the family home.  “Robbie the Post” was a well known figure delivering mail by cycle in all weathers while, back at base Chrissie served the public, a duty she continued after Robbie’s retiral.
